Three Hills
The gas station. A place of meeting, a place of eating, a place of memories. From the time children are walking they are coming through that glass door, holding their mother's hand and pointing at the slushie machine or running their hands along the rows of candybars and chips. Teens are eager to earn the badge of honour that arrives with the first lunchtime trip to Circle K, leaving school grounds for a five minute walk to get a large bottle of pop that they can drink obnoxiously during their next class. College students come in search of burgers and midnight fuel as they take breaks from writing papers, truckers stop in for their early morning caffeine, and travelers in desperate need of a bathroom find rest in the back, surrounded by dirty tile. The gas station is the heart of the town and one of the very few sources of entertainment to be found in Three Hills, Alberta.

Magical Moments
Few things in life satisfy my sense of adventure like travel to Europe. The beauty and culture fascinate me - and the colour! Light bouncing off the limestone buildings is a yellow both intense and pale; rainy days are a million shades of grey and the sunny days, an azure blue-as-blue can be. Where I live in Canada is magestically beautiful but there is something about the light here. As my the flight descends in Europe I feel as if I’ve come home again - despite having no family history in this part of the world. These trips have for me, been rich with culture, beauty and mystery that I’ve claimed for myself with the help of a camera. This time, I wanted to bring my paints to capture the essence and true colours - more so than using photographs as subject matter for my paintings. So for the first time, I packed my art supplies with my baggage - how brave of me, I thought.

14 HOURS IN CHICAGO, CHAPTER TWO
From the moment that the Greyhound bus pulled off from the Orlando Bus Terminal I started to think and feel this emotional war take place inside me. It felt like my conscious was playing tug of war with my emotions. I like to equate this feeling with an analogy that I like to call “Two Teams”. There were two teams on the opposite side of the “ Tug of War Knot” that was in the middle of the rope. The “Red Team” was on one side and The “Green Team” was on the other. The “Red team” represented emotions of anxiety, nervousness, wonder, uncertainty, regret, and sadness.

Vanitas
“…And may he forever rest in peace. Amen.” The stillness of mourning filled the cold air, the sounds of sobs barely making their way through the steady rain that fell from the November sky. It was the afternoon of my grandfather’s memorial service, the suddenness of it all still sinking in even as I watch the casket get lowered into the earth. Weeks before he was his same old chipper self, dancing around as well as his aging body could allow to the tunes of his earlier years and then one morning - as I made my way over to his estate in at Champions Farm in West Sussex - I found him in his favourite armchair with a book in his lap, cold as ice. At first it had appeared he had fallen asleep in that chair, as was common for him to do, but as circumstance had it, this time was different.

My Escape From Marriage to Mountain Views
When most married women think of their honeymoons, their eyes light up with memories of young love. What I remember brings no smile to my face. My husband, feeling secure that he now had the puss in the bag, lay in bed, and shared all the lies he remembered telling throughout our relationship. Now that we were married, he said, he could trust me with the truth. He then told me he loved me, rolled over, cuddled the dog, and slept like a baby.
