The Nerd Emporium of Pueblo, Colorado
Living in Pueblo, Colorado, you can travel a short distance for a variety of sights: Pike's Peak is about an hour away, or you could visit down south in Rye to see some beautiful mountains and forests. In town, there are the usual places, like authentic Mexican cuisine restaurants, Chinese places, and all of your typical chains (most of which sell Pueblo's infamous green chile). Shopping selections leave little to be desired, with the mall having lost a great deal of stores and major chains such as Sears and K-Mart shutting down.

Don't Forget Your Toothbrush
I get it, you’re preparing for vacation, and who wants to think of planning for a vacation as research? Sounds a lot like homework to me, and I never did much of that stuff in school. Be that as it may, it’s wildly important. I remember traveling to a city I hadn’t taken the time to research and find out information about before I got there. When I arrived, I saw that there was no public transportation [I’ll discuss why that was so important later], and saw that Uber/Lyft was not a thing there, AND it was dawning on me that I didn’t know a single person in this city. In a nutshell: I was stuck, a thing I wouldn’t have been had I done my research. Fortunately, I was financially equipped to travel back home. Though I lost out on what could have been an amazing experience because I didn’t take the time to do my due diligence, it did teach me the importance of making sure I know where I’m going.

Diary of a Misanthrope. Top Story - September 2021.
The first time I really questioned my species was underwater. With a nasty cut seeping red blotches into a blue expanse I could feel my heart pumping, my body reacting to all that self-preservation hyped by film, television, and literature. While Homo aquaticus has never been, and isn’t yet a thing, the wilds of underwater have this capacity to make you remember some ancestral sense of vulnerability. It is, after all, not an environment suited to the spongy bags in our chest. But it is a wondrous place, and when afforded the moment to reflect on this, underwater salts the eyes into tears. Tears of both joy and mourning.
