Running away to run into myself.
I was a determined child laced with a forgetful nature. My library books were often late and my socks never matched. By the time I entered second grate, the school librarian eventually grew tired of my tardiness, so she handed me a book and said "because your books are always late, you will have to read a boring book this week."

The Stranger I'll Never Forget
A couple of years ago, I spent three months travelling around Costa Rica. I had wanted to visit the tiny Central American country for years. It called to me. The mangroves, the cloud forests, the beaches. I wanted to swim in extinct volcano craters. I wanted to watch capuchin monkeys swinging in the treetops above me whilst I sunbathed. I wanted an adventure.

Shaking Things Up — Whitewater Rafting in Columbus, Georgia
We have been packing up our truck with kids and dogs and driving from Louisiana to Massachusetts for over a dozen years. Everyone knows the routine and everyone has a spot. It’s a complicated, three-day trip with a wonderful payoff — two months of floating in the Atlantic Ocean, spending time with friends and family, and lazy days gazing out over the bay in Hull, MA.

The Wonders of Living in a Foreign Tongue
As I sat in the Parisian metro, I tuned out the world around me without having plugging in my headphones. Tired from my busy day at university, I am once again reminded of one of my favourite parts about living in Paris, about living in France. Unless I'm actively listening, my French isn't fluent enough to understand a random conversation. I get the opportunity to tune out.

Bucket List
I've been thinking recently about living my life and all the things I want to accomplish. Then again, sometimes I wonder if it is more practical to live in the present. Having a bucket list makes me live in the future and not be in the here and now. However, if it is really about living what's the harm? At first, I thought starting at bucket list would make me more stressed, seeing things that I want to accomplish and feeling like a failure. However, I have learned that I am missing something, and I am not 100% happy. So, here we go, in now particular order, my bucket list.

The Sweet Ballad of Beauty, Death, and no Wifi
When you look death straight in the face, forget about posting it on Instagram. On the right, the hissing sound of the river hundreds of meters below us reaches my ears. The narrowing small trail in front of me pulls all of my attention towards its ascending rocky pulse. At my left, I smell fresh green moss growing in the moist shades of the red stone wall rising above us like a massive cathedral. Trees and branches hide the immediate steep descent towards the valley and the river. I focus on the soft towing sounds coming from the hoofs of my horse Nasir, just centimeters from the abyss. This soothing rhythm will become my compass of faith and surrender for the coming 5 days as we ascent the North Argentinian Andes. Leaving our loved ones, our homes, and constant Wifi connection behind. We are about to meet the Indian spirit high up in the mountains. I am looking forward to this digital detox, but can't grasp at that moment that this trip is going to change my life forever.
