Dubai, a gleaming pinnacle in the UAE, is known for its vast expanse of skyscrapers, shopping malls, and lively culture. Whether it is your first time in the city or you’ve frequented it many times, getting around to places you need to be can be challenging if not done properly. However, with a well-planned approach, you can navigate Dubai effortlessly and maximise your stay. Here’s a detailed guide on how to get around Dubai quickly.

Arriving in Dubai

From the moment you set foot in Dubai, you will be subjected to a lot of hustle and bustle starting at the airport. Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving millions of passengers annually. You will have multiple options to choose from when it comes to transportation out of the airport. The taxis and metros are the fastest way into the central city from the airport.

Dubai Metro

The metro in Dubai is undoubtedly one of the best ways to get across the city in a very short time. The Red and Green lines, the two main Metro lines in Dubai, cover a wide variety of locations and tourist attractions. Some of the key features of the metro include air-conditioned comfort, dedicated women and child cabins, and higher-class cabins for a more premium experience. The NOL card is used at the metro to punch in and out of the stations. It is a widely accepted card and is currently being used by other public modes of transportation as well.

Dubai Tram

The Dubai tram is another convenient method of transportation. It mainly operates around the Jumeirah Beach and Dubai Marina areas. The trams are modern, air-conditioned, and equipped with Wi-Fi, making them comfortable options for short trips. The trams also offer comfortable seating for passengers and ample room to stand to the side to experience actual tram travel.

Dubai Buses

Dubai has an extensive bus network, covering areas not serviced by metros and trams. Buses are air-conditioned and equipped with free Wi-Fi. The common card used for many methods of public transportation, the Nol Card, is also accepted by buses, ensuring seamless transfers from metros to trams to buses. It is also very convenient to both hail and track buses through the dedicated apps.

Taxis

Taxis are a more popular as well as expensive mode of transportation. The convenience of taxis is that they will drive to your chosen destination, and there is no transition period. Many of the hotels in the heart of Dubai, including the Hollywood-themed Paramount Hotel Dubai, have the option of booking cabs for their patrons. Taxis are metered, and the government regulates fares. Women travelling alone can opt for the pink-roofed ladies’ taxis, driven by female drivers, which is an option quite unique to this part of the world.

Car Rentals

Another convenient way to travel would be by a rental car. Imagine being on holiday and coming out of your luxury hotel rooms in Dubai to merely get into your parked car and drive off to the destination of your choice. Rental cars offer you such a choice. Major car rental companies have offices at the airport and throughout the city, making renting cars convenient.

Cycling and walking

Cycling has become a very popular mode of transportation in Dubai, thanks to the extensive development of bike lanes and convenient bike rental services throughout the city. You can rent bicycles at various locations, including the Marina and Downtown Dubai, to explore the city at a leisurely pace. Some people prefer to walk to closer destinations while enjoying the afternoon sun and the sights of the surrounding city. They prefer to walk amidst the noises of other people and cars, giving the exploration an authentic vibe.
