Depeche Mode Bar

Found a bar in Estonia dedicated to my favourite band.

I never thought I would fall in love with a place like I did with Tallinn, but I did. It wasn't always on the list of places I wanted to go to at first. I had always wanted to go to Helsinki. Bands like Nightwish and Lordi got me interested. I saw it on the line-up of several Baltic cruises. Because of that, many people who take a trip to Helsinki also take a boat trip to Tallinn.

The trip to Helsinki didn't go as planned because of the fire at Heathrow. But because of my work, I automatically get Bank Holidays off, so I fit everything in on those days.

I play a lot of Pokemon Go and joined in a few groups. I became good friends with someone who lives in Estonia. In the game, we became lucky friends, so I decided to swap the plan around: stay in Estonia and take the boat trip to Helsinki. Everything worked out well.

Deep in the old town area of Tallinn is a little bar dedicated to my favourite band. I found it hard to find on the map. Trying to navigate little alleyways via Google Maps is a pain. Once I found it, I was pleased. I first walked past it early hours in the morning on my way to Helsinki. It's open from 6PM till late at night, I think it was either 2 or 3 am.

I was so anxious about the flight and the trip the week before. Because I had read up on so many things about the airline and the hostel. I thought I was making a mistake. But everything turned out to be just fine in the end. It was all worth it to go to the bar. I think if I ever go back to Tallinn, I will stay somewhere in Old Town. Somewhere that is close to the Depeche Mode bar so I can go over there every evening I was in Tallinn.

The little bar was a haven for me. As soon as you went in, you were greeted with postcards, posters and lyrics of Depeche Mode songs. Walking around and exploring the place I was able to know what album era the photos and pictures were taken from. It felt like I had walked straight into a dreamland.

I knew every single song that was playing. And I loved every single song that was playing. There was lots of screens and they had Depeche Mode concerts in loop. The drinks menu was a lot of fun too. I loved how each of the cocktails were named after Depeche Mode songs.

I think even if it wasn't all about Depeche Mode, I would have still liked the bar. At the back way behind the bar there was arcade machines that blended into the place well. I never got to play on anything there, but saw lots of people having a go at them.

I think another thing that makes this place really special is that the band have attended the bar themselves. The place is not only become a part of the band's culture but a part of Tallinn's culture as well.

I didn't really socialise or talk with anyone there. I loved listening to other people's conversations about how much they loved the band and where they saw them on tour. I wished I joined in on those conversations. It was wonderful to listen to. Though a part of me wished I bought some souvenirs and merchandise. I'm sure I will be there again. I would love to bring friends and family there because it just had a really great vibe. I felt so chill and happy to be there.
