The capital city of the African country of Botswana


The Parliament Building sits at the western end of the Mall in Gabarone. The area is dominated by government ministries.

The National Museum and Art Gallery is a museum complex featuring traditional thatched roof houses, art galleries, and a collection of artifacts, ancient paintings, and contemporary art by celebrated Botswana artists.

Kgale Hill is located a few kilometers from the city center. It is a popular place with stunning views and outdoor activities. The hill stands are approximately 1,287 meters above sea level. It ia a favorite with hikers and nature lovers. The area holds cultural significance as it was chosen as the setting for the TV series adaptation of "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency," capturing the look and feel of old Gabarone.

Gabarone Dam was constructed alongside the town in the early 1960s. Today it is a popular destination for leisure activities like walking and picnicking.

The Three Dikgosi Monument is a tribute to three nationalist heroes - Bathoen, Khama II, and Sebele. These chiefs played a crucial role to prevent Cecil Rhoads from taking over Bechuanaland for his British South Africa Company. The momument stands as a landmark in the Central Business District.

Thapong Visual Arts Center is housed in the historic former magistrate's house. The house dates back to 1902. This is a hub for the emerging and innovative artists of Botswana. The center hosts exhibitions that showcase the talents of young artists. On site is The No.1 Ladies Coffee House named after the renowned novel series by Alexander McCall Smith.
Main Mall is a vibrant areas with many dining options. Here are also many shopping opportunities from wood products to historical items to souvenirs. Visitors can explore markets and grocery stores.

African Mall is a bustling marketplaces with traditional crafts, clothing, and souvenirs. Tourists can find handmade items such as jewelry, baskets, and wood carvings. The mall also has fabric shops with colorful fabrics.

Tlokweng is an urban village to the east of Gabarone. At one time it was used by the neighboring village as a cattle grazing area.

The University of Botswana also referred to as MmaDiklo (Mother of Universities) is the country's first higher education institute established in 1982. There are nine faculties and a graduate school. The campus features impressive architecture and spacious grounds with multiple entry points, dormitories, and ongoing construction at the library.

The Christ the King Cathedral was built in 1968 and is the main Roman Catholic church in Gaborone. The cathedral welcomes worshippers of all backgrounds. It is considered to be one of the impressive architectural gems in Botswana.

The Mokoladi Nature Reserve is a registered non-profit charity organization. It is home to a wide variety of animals and planted endemic to southeastern Botswana. The reserve offers game drives, rhino tracking, and accomodation options. Amongh the highlights is the bush braai (BBQ) experience, where you can enjoy a delicious meal while surrounded by the natural beauty of the reserve. Among the most popular animals to see are the giraffes. The reserve also has an environmental education program that welcomes over 9,000 school children per year.

The Gabarone Game Reserve lets visitors experience wildlife at an accessible location. The reserve is home to a variety of indigenous species among them zebras, elands, gemsboks, red hartebeests, blue wildebeests, impalas, kudus, steenboks, vervet monkeys, warthogs, and rock dassies. It is popular with both tourists and locals to get up close with the wildlife. The reserve is designed to educate about Botswana’s diverse ecosystem. Interpretive signs are scattered around the park, providing interesting facts about the flora and fauna. Guided tours are available.

The Gaborone Botanical Garden is a beautiful place. The lush garden has various plant species and trees. Visitors enjoy strolling along the walking paths and viewing the flowers, greenery, and looking out for birds. There are benches to sit upon and relax while enjoying the surrounding nature. Events such as yoga sessions or local markets sometimes take place within the garden.
