'Tis the season
I cannot honestly tell you where my love of fall and especially Halloween comes from. There isn't a particular memory or moment that sparked the love, but many fused together to only cement the adoration. I can fondly remember my mom making my costumes when I was tiny, from Tinkerbell to a Black Cat to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I remember my parents taking me out each year to gather a massive candy haul, and I remember being old enough to go walk around our neighborhood myself and take my little brother with me. I never tired of Trick or Treating, and even growing older I still longed to go door to door and have my own costume fashion show of sorts. Today, I still dress up every single year, and sometimes in multiple costumes. Halloween is the time of year when anyone can be someone else and just have fun. As a kid I had frequent nightmares, but it didn't stop me from watching movies like Beetlejuice repeatedly at three years old. I would watch Hocus Pocus & Halloweentown in the spring with no regrets as it gave me a taste of the season I love most. As I got older, my costumes also got a little more obscure as times. In junior high, I was Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and one time I was even Xena. I'm autistic, so Halloween itself became a fixation for me that still burns strong to this day.

The Evolution of The Queen Bee
What’s Your Damage, Heather? The Queen Bee trope has had us in a chokehold since the 80s when Heathers burst onto our screens. Red Heather had full control over her high school, she was ambitious, powerful, and widely disliked, yet all the other girls in the school either wanted to be her or get close to her. But Heather Chandler’s presence is omniscient throughout the movie, writer Daniel Waters fails to give us any background aside from superficial details. We know she partied, ate corn nuts, and dated Peter Dawson. But we are not told about her home life, her upbringing, or her socioeconomic status. But whether it was the audience or the people in Hollywood, someone made some big assumptions.

Reading Romance Is Self-Care
I'm at a point in my life now where I want to believe in happiness again. There were a long few years where all that seemed to show upon my horizon was bleak, enduring toil and that eroded my mental health like waves upon the beach shore. But I'm older now, and though in a material sense things still seem stretched thin, my mind is starting to fight back for pieces of happiness. In fact, I'll selfishly and boldly proclaim that I want more than just pieces- I want the whole cake dish of happiness and I'm tired of settling for less.
