In Pursuit of the Designer Vagina
Designer vagina – how many of you have not heard of this rather sensational label on a woman’s genitals? What shocked you more: the label itself or that women and girls, purportedly as young as nine, had expressed keen interest in having the inner and outer folds of their vagina being surgically altered?

Unifying The Voices Of Women
Over the years the answer to what it means to be a woman has changed. Before to be a lady or a woman was to be soft spoken and reserved, to mostly be seen and not heard. There were roles and expectations placed that set us as women in a small box that was taped shut by society. We were expected to have and raise children, to marry, take care of households. and overall, to leave the hard stuff to the men.

From here to home
I meet the little black notebook on my normal train. It’s not a date per se. Instead, fate brings us together on the 17:58 express from here to home, and although the carriage is mostly empty, the notebook has chosen my favourite seat, my only seat, to lay itself down and wait.

1987: The Year I went to Second Base
I grew up in the 80s. A time of big hair, curling irons and Kylie Minogue’s Locomotion. It was 1987. The year of Whitney Houston’s, ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’. We were all screaming at the top of our voices when Bon Jovi’s, ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ came on the radio. The Top 40 was something that I picked up from the music store every week. It was printed on a sickly yellow A5 paper. Aretha Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Sadly only 8% of women make up the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Do better.

The Negative Side Effects of Beautiful Women
Beauty isn’t all that. We’re so conditioned by the “Halo Effect” that we are fast to assume that beautiful people are happier or that they’ve got it easier because of their above-average looks. How did we wind up so hyper-focused on youth and exterior beauty, anyway? As if being or possessing beauty makes the secret sauce for all of life’s pleasures. Maybe it isn’t fair that some of us come into the world with an advantage like perfect symmetrical features or a multi-million-dollar inheritance. I mean, outer beauty and money are alike in that everyone wants a piece of the action despite that owning either of them alone is not nearly enough to bring us true happiness.
