Thoughts on Being
Over the last several days, weeks, and perhaps my entire life, I've reflected on what it means for me to be a woman in the United States and in the world as we know it. Growing up, throughout my many lives; a young girl on a tiny island; a blossoming teen in an even tinier small rural town; to a seemingly older and older adult chasing bigger and bigger cities; I have been predominantly raised and inspired by almost exclusively women. After my parents divorce, I was raised by my mother and grandparents* with on and off weekend visits with a father I wasn't allowed to be alone in the same room with. I was active in Girl Scouts, Women in Engineering (during my ill-fated stint as a chemical engineering major), Society of Women Engineers (yes those are different), and a sorority. I was surrounded by friends, mentors (like my high school chemistry teacher who I seem to be more and more like every day), and family that showed me all the many ways a woman could be. None of which were incapable, fragile (baring how we as humans are all fragile), dumb, or helpless as the rest of the world was trying to convince me.

The Crochet Chair. Top Story - July 2022.
An old chair sits quietly alone separated from anything that seems familiar in a darkened attic room put away for safekeeping, or perhaps just forgotten. The golden fabric left dull with a light coating of dust and a faint scent of musty wood, nestled in a corner pushed against the slanted walls of the roof line even though the bare plywood was in harsh contrast to the polished wooden accents this chair became lost. The raised floral patterns worn to smoothness as this chair found purpose and great use once in its lifetime. A bit scuffed, tattered and worn but obviously having some importance to be stored away for such a long amount of time.

Romance books, fashion & other "girl" things...
If you looked at my bookshelf as a teenager, you would have found crime, war, contemporary drama, history and potentially some fantasy. Never in a million years would you have found anything by Jojo Moyes, Sophie Kinsella or any other romance/chick-lit author.

Why I Hate Job Interviews?
In a society where it's important to at least pretend everyone is equal, job interviews are a stark and constant reminder that we're not. Well, I suppose it's only constant in my case because I never land the job and therefore, am always looking for another, but my point stands. I find it very reassuring that many of us live in a world where any drunk off the street can shout something at the President about his mother, and the President is forced to feign dignity and walk away with aplomb, or at worst, tweet a comeback 6 hours later in the middle of the night. My heart swells with pride in knowing that regardless of how high and mighty you are, a complete nobody like me can still make your life a bit shitty without fear of reprisal. The freedom to call the President's mother a whore to his face is very much the gold standard for an egalitarian civilization.

On My Complicated Relationship with the Word “Okay”. Top Story - July 2022.
Let me start with what I saw. The expanses above me were an aged off-white with the wildest, strangest assortment of clouds you can think of. Texture. Icy tile held accountable by gravity unyieldingly pressed itself to the back of my head, my shoulder blades, me, as I look up into the restless sea of plaster directly above me. A finite sky of drywall. The floor vent to my left puffs its wispy breaths, the plumbing pipes swishing fluid below me and above me and all around the tiny bathroom in which I laid. I didn’t feel; I saw.

Utilizing Social Media to Empower Women
Fighting for women's empowerment has been going on for decades, and with the use of social media, women's battle to fight for women's rights and empower the image of women is made stronger. Social media has become the voice of the silents, to reach out to every mute woman to remind them that they are not alone in fighting their battles and to fight for gender biases at work, so through advocate influencers who use their social media accounts to inform people about gender equality and every post about the principles of women's rights has a big impact on society. This is the reason why lots of people are encouraged to get involved in activism for women's rights and attend rallies to battle discrimination; many people nowadays are encouraged through what the social media informs us; one great example is the impact of the Twitter platform and Facebook platform.
