Twenty one days was the longest fast I’d done. Now that I’ve entered day 22, I have ventured into uncharted territory. It will be interesting to see what happens with my body from here. I’m waiting for the sour taste on my tongue to clear out. I glide my toothbrush gently over my tongue throughout the day to get rid of it. I read that when it goes away it’s an indication that autophagy has completed. You can read why I’m fasting by clicking on the story below.

I’m not a doctor, however I was diagnosed with a severe gut disease in 2016 and have spent the last several years researching health in order to heal my body. My healing journey inevitably led to spirituality. I meditate and pray everyday. Though I receive information through my own research, I also receive information in my head in the form of ‘downloads’.

Sexual orientation begins in the womb. I didn’t set out looking for this information, it came to me. I didn’t search for any supporting science until I started writing this. It’s up to you how much weight you want to put on what I write. The science is there though quite limited, but the reasons for elevated levels of hormones during pregnancy are what I’ve gathered through my experiences.

Barring medical conditions, today there are many everyday things that affect a woman’s hormone health. Birth control pills add hormones to a woman’s body. Many women use birth control for medical reasons, and most women use it as a form of contraception. After a woman stops birth control, medical science says it takes a year for it to clear out of a woman's body. In my experience, it took a year and half for the pill to clear out of my system. I took it for a medical reason, which I’ve since healed. A year and half is the length of time it took for my menstrual cramps to come back. FYI caffeine intensifies menstrual cramps by a lot.

Conception heightens a woman’s hormone levels. If she was on birth control and it hadn’t cleared out of her system, the birth control hormones add to her already heightened hormone levels.

We also add hormones to our bodies through our modern diet. Soy affects women’s hormone health, and it’s in a lot of our food. The meat and dairy industry use soy to feed the animals, so it is heavily present in the meat and dairy being consumed. I know this because when I was eating that meat I was eating a lot of chicken that was fed soy. When I would add any other soy product, like soy sauce, to my meal it would either trigger either a period or cramping as though I was about to get my period. This experience taught me about the affects of soy on hormone health.

I thought I was sourcing good meat, and it took a long time to realize I was wrong. Good meat and dairy is hard to find.

When a mother is pregnant with a male fetus there are elevated levels of testosterone in her body, which makes the male attracted to females. When a mother is pregnant with a female there are elevated levels of estrogen in her body, which makes the female attracted to males. When we add external hormones into the body, it affects the body’s natural production of hormones during pregnancy.

Elevated levels of hormones are not necessarily harmful to the fetus, as most times a healthy individual is born. Outside of pregnancy, an imbalance in hormone health can wreak havoc on a woman's overall health. Hormone health affects a woman’s emotional health, like depression, mood swings, even mental stability. Hormone health affects a woman's menstrual cycle and fertility. An imbalance in hormone health can cause painful medical conditions, like endometriosis and PCOS.

Hormone health is linked to our gut health. When we fix our gut health we restore our hormones to natural levels. Hormone health is important for a woman's vitality and staying away from all that threatens it is not only crucial, it’s self-love.
