Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 8)

Analyzing the highest scoring players, by position, during Week 8 of the 2024 season

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished 12 months ago 3 min read

Week 8 was quite a wild week in the NFL, and as a result, it had to be even wilder for us Fantasy Football people. It was quite the spectacle, as the heart of the Fantasy regular season continued on for those of us who have an outside shot of making a playoff run. With Week 8 behind us, there's two more weeks before the real big playoff push begins, and if you're at .500 by this time, you may still have a shot at playoff contention.

With that said, here's a look at the top players from Week 8 in Fantasy Football:

QB: Jalen Hurts

Here's how fantasy scoring works for quarterbacks: 1 point per every 25 passing yards (or 0.04 points per passing yard), and passing touchdowns are 4 points each. Interceptions are usually a 1 point deduction, and lost fumbles are a 2 point deduction. Jalen Hurt led the way for QBs in Week 8, and he was overdue for a game like this. Hurts' stats: 236 yards (9.44 points), and a touchdown (4 points), and he ran for 37 yards (3.7 points), and three touchdowns (18 points). Grand total: 35.14 fantasy points! What a haul for Hurts!

RB: James Cook

Fantasy scoring for running backs goes like this: 1 point per 10 rushing yards, and touchdowns are 6 points. Receiving scoring rules also apply; 1 point per 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are 6 points, and there's also PPR (Points Per Reception). James Cook led running backs in scoring in Week 8, running for 111 yards (11.1 points) and 2 touchdowns (12 points), and also had 3 receptions (3 points) for 22 yards (2.2 points). A grand total of 28.3 fantasy points for Cook, finishing just a hair ahead of De'Von Achane, who had 26.7 points

WR: CeeDee Lamb

Despite losing to the San Francisco 49erson Sunday Night Football, CeeDee Lamb dominated the WR position on Fantasy Football during Week 8 Scoring for WRs goes like this: PPR is applied, and most leagues awards a full point per reception. Also, it's 1 point for every 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are 6 points each. Lamb's numbers: 13 receptions (13 points), 146 yards (14.6 points), and 2 touchdowns (12 points), for a grand total of 39.6 points! The next closest WR to Lamb was Ladd McConkey, who had 29.1 points.

TE: Cade Otton

Scoring for tight ends is the same as WRs, and regarding Week 8, it was Cade Otton who took the lead in that position. Otton had 9 receptions (9 points) for 81 yards (8.1 points), and 2 touchdowns (12 points), for a total of 29.1 fantasy points. Otton's opposing TE, Kyle Pitts, was second with 25.1 fantasy points, and Travis Kelce finished third with 25 fantasy points.

K: Anders Carlson

Here's how scoring for kickers goes: extra points are 1 point, of course. Regarding field goals, those under 40 yards are worth 3 points, 40-49 yard FGs are worth 4 points, and those 50 yards or longer are worth 5 points. Whoever thought that Anders Carlson would be the leader for kickers in Week 8; he's come a long way since his up-and-down rookie season with the Packers. Carlson made three extra points (3 points) a 50-yarder (5 points), and two from 40+ (8 points), totalling 16 fantasy points, which was six more than older brother Daniel Carlson.

DEF: Detroit Lions

Here's how scoring for team defenses goes. Regarding scoring defenses, a shutout is 10 points, giving up 1-6 points is 7 points, giving up 7-13 points is 4 points, giving up 14-20 points is 1 point, giving up 21-27 points is no points, giving up 28-34 point is a 1 point deduction, and giving up at least 35 points is a 4 point deduction. Elsewhere, sacks are 1 point, interceptions are 2 points, safeties are 2 points, fumble recoveries are 2 points, blocked kicks are 2 points, and touchdowns are 6 points. For the second time in three weeks, the Detroit Lions took the lead for that position. They only had one sack (1 point), 2 interceptions (4 points), 2 fumble recoveries (4 points), returned a punt for a TD (6 points), and gave up 14 points (1 point), totalling 16 points--one point more than Pittsburgh's defense.

I was fortunate to have Jalen Hurts, CeeDee Lamb, and Detroit's defense starting for me in some leagues; in fact, Lamb helped me win my fourth straight matchup in one league. Those were Week 8's Fantasy Football leaders. Here's to what should be an interesting Week 9!
