The Worst MLB City Connect Jerseys

The following jerseys didn't make the grade

By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published about 9 hours ago 5 min read

Greetings, baseball nerds! Spring Training will be here before you know it. In my previous story, I've selected some of my favorite City Connect jerseys that stood out to me. I'll have a link to that story down below. With the good comes the bad, so I'll be highlighting six of the worst City Connect jerseys that didn't vibe well with me. We can all agree to disagree with the following selections, but if you didn't see a jersey that made the list, please comment down below. Just like my previous story, I'm only going to focus on the jerseys themselves, not the hats. A list of the best and worst City Connect hats will be featured on here in a later story.

Philadelphia Phillies

Let's start with the defending National League East champion Phillies. The combination of black and blue for the jersey is excellent, but I'd love for it to be red and white. The font that reads Philly, however, is unappealing. I'd prefer it to be in the same font as their regular jerseys that reads Brotherly Love. Overall appearance: 5/10. The jersey itself doesn't scream Philadelphia. If the jersey were red and white and added more creativity to it, I'd be on board with it.

Houston Astros

The Texas Rangers most hated rivals and one of the two most despised teams in baseball released a second City Connect jersey. I'm not an Astros apologist by any means, but their last jersey was better, in my honest opinion. However, for this jersey that Jose Altuve is wearing, I have so much to say. I'll start off with some good things about it. The patch on the right sleeve defines Houston well and the font for the jersey number is attention-grabbing, as well as the orange and yellow outlines. There's one detail on the jersey that doesn't sit well with me: the text that reads STROS. I understand that's their nickname, but it seems so lazy. While the star above the text is a plus, I would've loved it if it had the word H-Town on it in a different font. Overall appearance: 6/10.

Detroit Tigers

The 2025 ALDS matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners will always be memorable to baseball fans. For their City Connect jersey, people will remember it forever, but not in a positive way. One of my favorite players in Major League Baseball, Javier Báez, poses in the City Connect jersey. First, the tire track patterns on the jersey perfectly embodies what Detroit is about. Second, blue and black are one of my favorite color combinations, so this is an outstanding blend. The script that reads MOTOR CITY stood out well, but I wish it were in a different font. Also, they looked more like soccer jerseys than baseball jerseys. Overall appearance: 7/10.

New York Mets

The 2025 offseason was a controversial one for the Mets: trading away some of their best players and fans fuming over the organization's moves. Whether or not the Mets will make it to the 2026 Postseason is anyone's guess. Let's discuss their City Connect jersey. Another color combination that I like are purple and black, which are attractive. Those and the pinstripes are an exceptional fit. However, I'm not a fan of the script that read NYC. I would've preferred it to say METS in the same font and in the same color. Overall appearance: 7/10.

Kansas City Royals

Another one of my favorite MLB players I'm featuring in this story is longtime veteran and World Series champion Salvador Perez. In this photo, he's wearing a Royals City Connect jersey. Let's start with the good: the light blue and white at the end of the sleeves are a modest touch. Plus, the light blue 13 is excellent. Finally, the "R" with the crown on top of that on the right sleeve is very creative. The font for the "KC" could've been the same as the one displayed on the right sleeve but kept the crown. Also, I would've liked the color of the jersey to be a bit lighter. Overall appearance: 6/10.

Los Angeles Angels

The next team on my list features a team that should be putting more energy into becoming a winning franchise and focusing on making playoff appearances than releasing City Connect jerseys. Here we have yet another one of my favorite MLB players, Mike Trout. The positives about the jersey: the colors of the jerseys are what I expect from the Angels. The Angels patch on the right sleeve is intact. On the lower left side of the jersey is a diamond with Trout's jersey number inside of it. The negative: the font that reads Angels is a bit too enormous. A more, slimmer and sophisticated font in the same color would've sufficed. That would've made it and the halo around the "A" look more distinguished. Overall appearance: 6/10.

Boston Red Sox

The final team I'll be featuring are the men of Fenway Park. They're one of the most iconic teams in baseball and have the World Series titles to show for it. However, their City Connect jerseys, are a different matter. The color of the jerseys looked more like olive green than a darker shade of it. The concept of them was to pay homage to The Green Monster. To the non-baseball fans who aren't familiar with it, it's what the tall, green wall located in left field at their ballpark is called. While the font on the jerseys looked fairly modest, the only criticism I have with them is the color. Overall appearance: 5/10.

If the Red Sox were to release another City Connect jersey in the future, I hope it would be more appealing to fans. I felt the customization of these jerseys were rushed and not taking the time to put more thought and effort into them. The vocational trade I took over 15 years ago was Office Administration. One of the skills I had to learn was how to do PowerPoint presentations. I've also learned how to make different fonts and outlines more appealing. They say that first impressions are everything, so I hope that the person or people behind the design of these jerseys understand that this in no way of discrediting their hard work. It's just me offering some constructive criticism of them and not out of hate. Baseball fans want to purchase and wear a jersey of their own team that would look great on them.
