We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
A Wild Night in the State of Hockey
It always amazes me how long this rivalry has lasted. The Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild have been going at it for almost a quarter-century now. The Wild are our longest serving division foes, even longer than the Montreal Canadiens back when we were the Quebec Nordiques. The Wild debuted in 2000, and were placed in the old Northwest Division with the Avs. The two teams have been in the current Central Division since 2013, and even in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, the two teams were in the localized West Division. Plain and simple, we can't get away from the Wild.

Windy City Woes
The Colorado Avalanche completed an absolutely successful homestand that saw us win three of the four games, and pick up seven out of the maximum eight points. The Avs' overall eight-game point streak was on the line in this first game of a three-game road trip, and our first stop: Chicago. The Avs have had a knack for beating the Blackhawks over the years, mainly ever since the two teams became division foes in 2013.

Lucky Seven
On more than one occasion in these recaps, I said that I want to see the Colorado Avalanche go on a hot streak at some point. The Avs had made up a lot of ground after our shaky start, but we still needed something to remind fans and experts how dangerous this team is.

GreeleyJay Comeback Falls Short versus Rye
Please see tip, subscribe and pledge buttons On Friday December 13, GreeleyJay took their combined teams and faced Rye at the Brewster Ice Arena. After getting off to a good start with the first goal, the home team saw the Garnets put in the next four. So it looked like a long night. But the boys did regroup and a game was had.

So It Shouldn't Be a Total Loss
Colorado Avalanche fans (myself especially) were still celebrating that huge comeback win over the Buffalo Sabres, which was our sixth straight win. Next up for the Avs: a Saturday battle with the Montréal Canadiens, our former longtime perennial foes from our days as the Quebec Nordiques. The first thought as I watched this: the last time we had a big winning streak entering a game against Montréal, it came to an end against Les Habitants.

Right Where We Wanted Them
So this was definitely a game to remember! The Colorado Avalanche had a great New Year's Eve, winning big over the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets. It's a New Year now, but the Avalanche still have that same groove, as we entered our game against the Buffalo Sabres. This was the second and last meeting of the season, and we all remember how the first game ended. The Avs trailed 4-0, but went on to win 5-4 in regulation in Buffalo, which was part of the Sabres' 13-game losing streak.

My Suggested New Year's Resolutions for All 32 NHL Teams
Happy New Year, everyone, and especially to my fellow puckheads out there! This has been a hell of a season so far. We've seen some amazing moments from the 32 teams, we've seen some history, some milestones, but sadly, we had some tragedy entering the season. Now, we are in a new calendar year, and January is an important month, as it's normally the last full month before All-Star Break, though this year, the NHL is doing the Four Nations event.

Ending the Year on a Roll
It's fitting that the Colorado Avalanche's last game of the 2024 calendar year was against the Winnipeg Jets. The Avs entered that year having problems with Winnipeg, yet the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs saw us totally dismantle them. However, Connor Hellebuyck got his pound of flesh in the first meeting of the season, a 1-0 shutout win in Winnipeg. On New Year's Eve, it was Round Two, and it was in Denver this time. We had the added bonus of Jonathan Drouin returning to the lineup as well.

Lehk Amok
The Colorado Avalanche's last game before the holiday break was a big home victory against the Seattle Kraken, which was centered by Joel Kiviranta's Hat Trick. The Avs returned to action with two games left in the calendar year, and the first of those two games was a meeting with the Utah Hockey Club. This was the third meeting of the season, with the two teams splitting the first two, though the road team is undefeated in this season set.

It's the Wedgewood That Makes it Good
The Colorado Avalanche were coming off an amazing win in San Jose against the Sharks; an interesting battle between the two goalies who were traded for each other: Mackenzie Blackwood and Alexandar Georgiev. So the Avs were 1-1 in the three-game road trip, and we concluded our trip to the Pacific Time Zone with a stop in the epicenter of Orange County, California: Anaheim. This meeting was the second of the season between the Avalanche and the Anaheim Ducks, with the first one taking place on October 18, with the Avs defeating the Ducks in OT for our first win of the season after a shocking 0-4 start.

Trading Places
Amazing. When the Colorado Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks last faced each other, Alexandar Georgiev was with the former, and Mackenzie Blackwood was with the latter. Over a month later, the two goalies were swapped for each other, as Colorado was looking to solve our goaltender problems. Interestingly, these two goalies were not in net during the first meeting between the clubs this season. In this matchup, they were.
