We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.

True North Strong (NHL Western Conference Playoff Picture)
As the Four Nations Champion is about to be crowned, the time for the regular season to resume is getting closer and closer. We are now entering my favorite part of the season: the part where we see early Sunday games on national TV. In fact, the first Sunday to feature such games will be this upcoming one, February 23. A Long Time Coming (NHL Eastern Conference Playoff Picture)
Greetings, fellow puckheads! The 2024-25 NHL season has now reached the Four Nations Break; yes, instead of the usual All-Star Break that lasts a few days, this year, the NHL is taking a longer break for the anticipated Four Nations Face Off, which will see the NHL's best from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the U.S. face each other in a round robin tournament. The break began following the NHL's minimal amount of games on Sunday, February 9 (Super Bowl Sunday), with the NHL season resuming on February 22.

Is There Anything More Beautiful Than Beating the Oilers?
The Four Nations Break is days away, as was another big game in another league, but for the Colorado Avalanche, this was our last game for a good bit. And how fitting that our last game before the break is against the Edmonton Oilers. For one, it's MacKinnon vs McDavid, that's always a main event matchup. And secondly, the next time we'll see MacKinnon, McDavid, and Makar? They'll be teammates representing Canada in Four Nations. Holy guacamole!

Did the Avs Win the Trade?
The Colorado Avalanche's last three games prior to the Four Nations break were all in Western Canada, and this old Northwest Division fan can't help but enjoy when the Avs go there. The Avs were division foes with the three teams in that area for 15 years before the divisions were realigned to their current look. The trip began on Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks, and that game saw the Avs blanked by Thatcher Demko. Next up, it's back-to-back in Alberta, and the first half of the double dip sees us in Calgary against the Flames.

Goose Eggs
Maybe it's me, but it seems like there are two sides to being a Colorado Avalanche fan; at least it seems that way ever since we became, well... this about seven years ago. One side is elated over a number of the games we've played, especially the ones we've won and how we won them, and we believe that we'll get a good spot in the standings. The other sees how our rivals are doing, and in moments where we fail to capitalize, we believe our journey will end sooner than it should.

The Great Wall of Blackwood
It's the second day of February. We are one week away from Super Bowl Sunday, but in the NHL, the Four Nations break is close--starting next Monday. Even with the extended gap, February is an important month in the NHL season. It's the last month before the final full month of March, so teams who are looking to become part of the NHL's Sweet 16 are itching to jockey for position. This includes the Colorado Avalanche, who are angling to move up in the Central Division. The team returned home on Friday and shut out the St. Louis Blues. For this game, it was the Philadelphia Flyers visiting Ball Arena.
