Training In Tough Times
Considering how many of us are stuck at home I have decided to write a short series of posts about what I have learned about training. This will in no way be a comprehensive list, but hopefully it helps add some clarity and purpose to training, for myself and for those who need it.

Teetering on a Cliff of Regret
In High School, I was a drug addict, and then all this happened. I was a drug addict who felt extremely guilty about doing drugs. I hated lying, and I hated getting arrested. I hated the fact that I needed drugs in order to feel okay. My guilt drove me to excel in school. I guess I was really guilty because somehow, I finished High School with my Associate's Degree in college. I took the distance education program through which my High School actually paid for my degree. I went to class high pretty much every day. I'd take ADD pills to give me energy and help me focus. In the evening, I'd take other things to help me sleep. I felt pretty messed up inside. During the summer where I was set up to finally finish my degree, I worked hard every day and pretty much locked myself inside.

Head racing in rowing
A head race in rowing is in effect a time trial rather than a race to see who is first to cross the finish line. It is the sort of race that is more suitable for a narrow stretch of river, and it requires different skills from those of sprint racing. Basically, in a head race the crews start the course at different times and race against the clock rather than each other.

The origin of hammer throwing
When watching the hammer throwing event at modern athletics competitions such as the Olympic Games, one thought that crosses many minds is that the thing being thrown does not look much like a hammer! That metal ball on the end of a flexible wire would be the last thing one would choose for knocking in a few nails!
