My Review of "Tiger"
A 2 part TV series chronicling the ups and downs of Tiger Woods' life.

Tiger is a 2 part TV special that came out recently. It's an HBO sports special when there's not a lot of sports being played on TV. That's why I think this was probably the perfect time for this show to be aired. We all know who Tiger Woods is and we've all probably remember a lot of the crazy stories about his life. This series goes a little deeper and connects all the dots.
The story starts off when Tiger was a little kid. I had totally forgotten how young he was when he first started playing golf. His father literally brought him up from a baby to become a golf master. Of course the show even dives a little deeper into the moral implications of what Tiger's parents had done to him. We can't say of course if he was totally into golf or not when he was younger so the show keeps this in some grey territory. It's up to us to decide what we think is right or wrong.
In a sense I like that about this docu-series. I found that they presented the good and the bad of all aspects of Tiger in as much of a non-bias view as they could. They allow us as the viewer to decide for ourselves our own opinions about the matter. There are some aspects where I could see some people believing that the show was leaning towards a certain side but they presented the facts that they could obtain. We don't hear testimonies from some of the bigger players in this show like Tiger himself or his ex-wife.
Most of the testimonies come from reporters and people within Tiger's social circle. Some of these people have been ex-communicated from Tiger so we also have to take that into consideration when we listen to their eye witness accounts. Had we heard from Tiger, his ex-wife or his mother, I'm sure that the whole story would be quite different.
Then again we learn more about how Tiger has a way of compartmenting his feelings. He has been in the public eye for pretty much all of his life. It's safe to assume that he knows what he's supposed to be saying and what he's not supposed to be saying. Even if we had an interview with him for this documentary I'm not sure if we'd get the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Really it's not supposed to be our business anyways.
The thing is he's such a huge star and that's what's appealing about this docu-series. He had risen from nothing and reached heights that were totally unexpected of anyone. Through the years of his meteoric rise we see how people around the world in particular the United States reacted to him as an athlete and a person.
It's also interesting to see what goes on inside his head. Of course we can't really know what was going on in his head but the series is able to give us a good recollection of what happened in his past for him to perhaps behave the ways that he did. This makes it a little less shocking when we start to see his fall from grace.
The first half of the series allows us to discover Tiger's relationship with his father. This is possibly the most powerful and influential relationship he had in his lifetime. It explains a ton of things that had happened throughout his life and how he became such a great golfer.
The second half of the series is basically his fall from grace. It's basically the repercussions of the events from the first half. After seeing the second half of the series it felt like a proper story where it had a huge high point then a gigantic fall and finished off nice and neatly in a tidy package at the end.
I think that the runtime of this series was perfect with a thrilling flow and pacing. They definitely captured my attention from the very beginning. Each half of the show is an hour and a half and the time just flew by. It goes to show that they used every minute in the runtime efficiently. After watching the whole series I felt like I was satisfied with the information that I was given. I didn't have a sense that I still had questions after finishing the show.
Overall, I would say watch this series. It will suck you in and keep you there until the very end. You won't believe that 3 hours had passed by already. Tiger's story is absolutely fascinating and I don't think there's a person out there that doesn't know who he is. I have to give this docu-series a 9 out of 10. It was really well made and I think a lot of people are going to love it.
