Why ESPN Is Failing. Top Story - September 2017.
10,000 — the amount of subscribers ESPN loses on average per day. That alarming number seems to be taking its toll on the ‘Worldwide Leader in Sports.’ Want to know just how big this toll is? ESPN laid off almost all of their hockey staff, during the middle of the NHL playoffs. They also laid off some of their best reporters: Brett McMurphy, Jeremy Crabtree, Max Olson, and Ed Werder, to name a few.

Bird and Ainge’s Trade Deadline Dialogue
As most NBA fans were drooling over the potential blockbuster trade that almost sent Paul George of the Indiana Pacers to the Boston Celtics, two familiar faces had to have been on multiple phone calls with each other. One more stubborn than myself, and the other pressing hard for what he wanted in return. The result was that absolutely nothing happened, and I was left at 3 p.m. EST feeling slightly cheated of the Twitter storm that could have, and should have happened.

Madison Square Garden Won’t Be Set On Fire Just Yet
Thursday night Frank Ntilikina was selected 8th overall by the New York Knicks. Phil Jackson selected the unknown European player in the lottery for the second time in three years. The first European player in the lottery he selected was Kristaps Porzingis, who was booed on draft night, but is now a fan favorite. Oh, and yeah, Phil Jackson is taking in trade offers about Porzingis right now too. What a great way to piss off already hurting New York fans. That’s one way to get you killed, Phil. For now, as of the 22nd of June, Madison Square Garden and Phil Jackson’s head is safe.

The case is actually pretty simple. If it were anyone else, and certainly anyone who wasn’t over the age of 40, a player of Jaromir Jagr’s ability would have been signed on July 1 without prejudice. With the field of available players thinning out and Jagr relegated to the bargain bin, NHL teams should relish the chance to sign the league’s No. 2 all-time scorer.

NBA Jersey Ads Are Trash
I hate the idea of having an ad put on the left chest of an NBA jersey. The Boston Celtics have agreed to place a General Electric patch on their sacred uniforms. Of all the NBA teams, I would’ve guessed that the Celtics would resist the patch — until Adam Silver threw down his quiet money-filled hammer to force the Celtics into putting some sort of ridiculous patch on the hallowed Boston jersey.
