While I have been away from blogs for quite a while, the mind has been pre-occupied with professional stuff. As much as I would love to write, times have been challenging and hectic. Last couple of weeks have seen a spurt in Sporting activities on the field after a long long time. The French Open, WTC Finals in England, Wimbledon, Euro Cup and the Copa America. Djokovic, New Zealand, Italy and Argentina all deserving champions of their respective sport. Kudos on the amazing victories.

14-Year-Old Zaila Avant-garde First African American Wins National Spelling Bee
On Thursday, July 8, 2021, 14-year-old Zaila Avant-garde made history. The Harvey, Louisiana teen became the first African American to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee in its 96-year history. The only Black winner before her was Jody-Anne Maxwell from Jamaica in 1998. Zaila's championship also breaks a streak dating back to 2008 when at least one champion or co-champion was of South Asian descent.

Harrison catches fire for the Dallas Wings Dallas Wings center Isabelle Harrison is averaging 10 points per game. After a stop and go kind of start, Harrison has been on a role since June 24. She has scored double figures in her last six games and has shot over 50 percent in all but one of those contests. During that stretch she had two 23-point games. One was against Chicago on June 30. Harrison shot 10-17 from the field and 3-3 from the free-throw line. Two games later on July 5 against New York she scored 23 points on an even better 9-12 shooting from the field. In between those contests Harrison shot a near perfect 6-7 from the field on July 2 against Chicago.
