Ja Morant Needs to Think

The NBA star should consider situational awareness at all times.

Thinking just isn’t the same for individuals today. Actually, any day. There have been Greek, French, and German philosophers on the vanguard for advancing thought.

Even African American blues artists expressed thought through their music. In actuality, every human being with the capacity to think possesses a philosophy.

For NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant, it seems like he’s throwing away his gifts. These are not the talents on the hardwood but his chance to think before he acts.

In an altercation with a minor where Morant allegedly pointed a gun at him at his home court. The seventeen-year-old is currently talking with police but has not pressed charges.

What all this points to is an individual who doesn’t know how to properly process his emotions. Morant lacks the ability to define a situation and to consider it rationally. His off-the-court shenanigans ought to paint a picture of just how brainless the young man can be.

Atcthe same time, however, he must have enough sense to know what $200 million dollars to his name from the league is. With this fortune, he still wants to put on a show for the crowd or just himself.

When it comes to minors, he allegedly brandishes guns and assaults those not yet adults. In the time that he could have been lifting weight, eating protein bars and drinking shakes, Morant allegedly brandished a firearm.

His predilection to show off his “hood” status is like the sheep who wears wolf's clothing. Or more poignantly, a lamb who wears the grizzlies cloak. If he wants to continue down this pathway, that is up to him. He doesn’t have the time or energy, yet, to continue this facade.

He must continue to go about his days as a star who could see his light fade given the amount of time he could face where he might get into serious trouble. Morant is out here playing like a thug. His savage ways only paint him as a brute and not the gentleman he purports himself to be.

If he is to be a definitive player within the NBA it is important for him to know that he is worth more than he is showing. If he wants to continue his streak as a versatile and noteworthy baller, he needs to get his attitude in check.

He ought to choose yoga and anger management classes to tap into his inner solitude. Morant presents himself to be a capable player on the field. His overall gameplay on both sides of the court is something to marvel at in the truest sense.

His court IQ amazes and delights. Off court, he has to figure out a way to not have run-ins with teens not old enough to vote. The supposed fights and the incidents where Morant has the most trouble with thinking, he keeps finding bad trouble. No matter how much money is tossed at him, all those dollars don’t mean a thing if he finds himself in a correctional facility.

The 2020 Rookie of the Year sure can put on a show but can he put his thoughts in order? Can he be able to translate his prowess between the baskets into his personal life?

While it may not seem clear whether he will mature enough in the coming years, it remains to be seen.

Morant seems like he might be a promising figure within the NBA. He seems poised to rise up and vanquish the competition. But will the competition in the mirror only impede his progress? The time for him to grow up could bring him to heights that could allow him to use his wits and think.
