4 Reasons Why Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Mone Shouldn’t Happen at All In

Why AEW needs to hold off on a Toni Storm and Mercedes Mone match

By Carol CassadaPublished 8 months ago 3 min read
Mercedes Mone vs. Toni Storm is an AEW dream match

AEW’s PPV All In is set for July 12th in Arlington, Texas. It’s the wrestling company’s biggest event and it’s going to be a star-studded lineup with the match card.

The big question on everyone’s mind is who will AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm face. Storm’s opponent will be determined at the Double or Nothing PPV on May 25th. Mercedes Mone and Jamie Hayter will compete for the opportunity to challenge Storm for the Women’s Championship.

AEW has been hinting at a possible match between Storm and Mone, which has fans convinced she's winning at Double or Nothing. Storm and Mone are two of the best women's wrestlers in AEW and in the world. Having them fight is a dream match waiting to happen.

While many fans would love to see Storm and Mone possibly main-event All In, this is one match AEW should hold off on.

1. Mercedes Doesn't Need Another Belt

Mone wrestles in other promotions and has collected many belts, including the AEW TBS Championship. Naturally, she has her sights set on AEW's top prize, the Women's Championship. If by some chance Mone challenged Storm and won the Women's title, it'd be another belt added to her collection. While it'd be an amazing accomplishment, it'd do damage to AEW's women's division. The roster is filled with talented women who work hard and deserve a championship opportunity but might not get it because of Mone holding both titles. Unless AEW is going to have Mone drop the TBS Championship anytime soon, then she should not challenge for the Women's title.

2. Mone Needs To Be Knocked Down A Peg

Mone is one of the best heels in AEW. Between her inflated ego and cheating to win, The CEO is a wrestler fans love to hate. Mone has gone on an impressive winning streak since arriving in AEW. Although many opponents have put up a tough fight, she always comes out on top.

It's no surprise why she's the favorite heading into Double or Nothing. However, the PPV should be where Mone gets knocked a peg.

Mone has asserted her dominance over the women's division and she thinks Hayter will be easy to take down. Yet, as seen in their previous showdowns, Hayter isn't going down so easily. There's no doubt Hayter will make Mone work for the championship opportunity. While Mone is confident the Owen Cup is hers, her overconfidence will backfire allowing Hayter to pick up the victory.

3. Hayter vs. Storm Makes For Better Storytelling

Hayter is one of AEW's most popular wrestlers and a former Women's Champion. She and Storm have previously fought over the championship. At Full Gear 2022, she beat Storm to win the Women's title. However, six months later at Double or Nothing 2023, Storm defeated her for the belt. After her championship loss, Hayter was sidelined for over a year with a back injury. She made her triumphant return at All In 2024, and has gotten her groove back inside the ring.

Now, she has her eyes sight on reclaiming her Women's championship. A championship she lost to Storm. The women have a lot of history, and it'd make great storytelling seeing them take their feud to All In and possibly beyond.

4. Don't Push Mone vs. Storm Too Soon

When AEW teases a potential showdown between two wrestlers fans are ecstatic. The interactions between Mone and Storm have fans wanting a dream match, and they want it now. Having it All In, one of AEW's biggest PPVs is great timing.

However, it might be too soon.

In wrestling fans want everything ASAP. But with dream matches, it's important to be patient. A match of Mone and Storm's caliber deserves proper build. After Double or Nothing, it's six weeks until All In. While there's no doubt the ladies could make a feud work in that short period, think what they could do if given more time.

Holding off on Mone and Storm will build up the anticipation of when they finally step into the ring together.
