Because I Deserve it!
The trap of buy now and pay later

How did we end up here, we have all heard about it, it is the way in which "everyone" gets what they want, mortgage your future, enjoy today that tomorrow does not matter, YOLO, you Deserve a treat!! This purchase is the reason why you work so hard!!!
A few weeks ago I did a video in my channel (in Spanish), on how our society has lost the plot, we see all these "services" that offer you the option to willingly go into debt; want a purse? Buy now pay later!
Want a computer, why saving? Buy it now and pay it way later!! And that's how we navigate our productive lives; in a constant state of I need it now and the future that will come out of those decisions becomes an afterthought in the deep back of our minds.
A few years ago I had an used car that broke down beyond repair, I used to drive it for Uber, it was 2017, and after that bitter moment I decided that I "Deserved" a new car, that I was the winner after years of hard work of "New car smell" of a car that would not break down as often as the older one did (many time I must say) and that I'll find a way to pay it.
As a struggling migrant in Australia, I had no savings, and to my surprise, I only needed AUD 500 to be able to reserve the right to purchase a brand new car... and not even those AUD 500 were mine, I toke them from another personal loan I had, and that I'm still to this day paying back!! Lord give me patience.
The total cost of the car was AUD 18,999 but with the longest form of finance and the highest interest possible, remember I had NOTHING TO my name, it would end up being AUD 40,320 over the course of 84 months (7 years). Little I understood how disgraceful the deal was or how my life was going to change for the wort, but to sum things up, I sold the car (at a lost) 2 years after; when things got to the point of either putting food on the table or paying the monthly fees of the thins that I deserved to have.
There's a simple rule of thumb, if it makes you money it is an asset, if it takes money from you its is a liability; you could go into debt as long as the money flow goes towards you in a positive manner, Rich Dad Poor Dad from Kiyosaki explains this fact better than I do and this is what I came to understand.
We do not deserve anything other than the value we give back to the world, getting into debt only makes sense if what you're getting will pay itself back, if it will help you create value back to society. Getting into debt just to get things to alleviate your ego or to impress someone else is, and always will be a really BAD Idea.
Any decision we make has a consequence, every penny that we borrowed, comes out of us at a price higher than it cost us at the start, we are mortgaging our future selves for a bit of fun, a fancy meal or nice looking shoes, is we are to deserve anything, it would be to be free, to be able to do what our hearts desire, but to achieve this amazing situation a discipline must be developed, a mindset needs to be cultivated and succumbing to the trap of buying now and paying later will only make us further away from that goal.
So next time you are thinking about using your buy now pay later app, think for a second, is this purchase worthy of my time to pay it back, or is this going to pay itself and I'll be better off? Our habits and decisions is what make us and take us where we should be... be wise and don't be a fool like I once was...
Being free, that without a doubt is what we all deserve!
