The Staying Power of Casablanca
My dad and I are both classic movie fans, it's one of the few things we bond over. We have a ritual of meticulously combing TCM’s weekly schedule and recording anything that sounds interesting. It started last summer; I was too depressed to go outside, and instead sat for hours, near-vegetative in front of the TV as Ben Mankiewicz talked about movies I’d only heard referenced in passing. I like a little bit of everything; my dad, as of late, watches anything related to WWII—typical middle-aged white dad fare—and that’s really where it starts.

From my earliest days, I have enjoyed spending time outdoors. Growing up in the Poconos allowed me to easily expose myself to the sunshine and greenery. In my youth, I played with the neighborhood kids, running through the woods and concocting interesting scenarios to act out. As a family we explored the various state and national parks in the area. I was lucky to grow up in an area full of gorgeous vistas and abundant wildlife and that love of nature transferred into adulthood.

Gaming as Art
I quite often feel that gaming is very often overlooked as an art form, even scoffed at by various groups of people as connoisseurs of art and I feel it is unfairly so. As a medium, I believe it can explore all the themes traditional art styles do and add interesting perspectives to them as they games allow players to experience them for themselves from a different perspective. Yes, there are games that are just silly fun, but there are plenty of games that explore a wide variety of subjects in interesting ways.

My BandLab Addiction
I love BandLab and, as far as I know, BandLab most certainly loves me. BandLab itself is an eye opener for an artist with a smartphone. The fact that I can remotely make music on the fly with a built-in DAW on an app still makes me smile. Discovering loopers... that was just the automated icing on the cake. The communities themselves are also a great way to discover other musicians and, when applicable, shamelessly plug yourself as well.

The physical health of Europeans is improving, yet the same cannot be said for mental health. Whereas public health has been a priority, it is mostly focused on physical health and disease prevention, with mental health being secondary. Nonetheless, suicide accounts for 1.4 percent of deaths worldwide and is the second most prominent cause of death amongst young people. The act of suicide should not be considered an individual issue, but rather one that affects that person’s family, their surroundings and society in general.

4 Questions We Need Answered in 'Stranger Things' Season 4
The third season of Stranger Things was one wild ride and probably the craziest adventure the series has taken audiences on so far. One would think it would be hard to top Demogorgons and giant monsters from another dimension. But the Netflix series outdid itself with a compelling narrative involving the Mind Flayers' unique return and a fun, 80s inspired Russian secret lab conspiracy beneath StarCourt Mall. Yup, the latest season was pretty crazy in how it unveiled many things about the Stranger Things Universe, notably that Russia knows about the Upside Down and have discovered many gateways into it. This leads to so much speculation on where the next season will take subscribers.

New School: Hip-Hop’s New Leading Class
Hip-Hop has been around for many years and has told the story of how different people are struggling and can relate to each other. Hip-Hop is about sharing your struggles and realizing everyone who listens have that one thing in common and you can turn it into art. I have been listening to hip-hop for years now. I grew up on rap greats like Nas, Jay-Z, Lil’ Kim, 50-Cent, Eminem, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and many more. Ever since then, I have started paying real close attention to what these musical geniuses say. Now in this generation, only a few people are actually continuing to do what hip-hop has been for the last years and making it into the right way. I pay attention to the lyrics, which help people relate and listen. Also, I listen to authenticity as rappers talk about real-life situations and not fake things, and trying to be someone they are not. I recommend some new listeners take this into perspective of these new artists. I believe after listening for a long time, these 10 rappers of the new school are finishing the path “old school” rappers started.

After all, the whole point of high school (besides, I guess, academics) is for adolescents to learn how to participate in the social world. At my high school, however, there was no class on how to date and make friends with other people. Instead, I had to learn everything through trial and error.
