This Election is About YOU

I'm still reeling over the news that a Domestic Terrorist Group, "Wolverine Watchmen", planned to kidnap a sitting Governor of the United States and now we find out that another Governor was also targeted. Our country is in turmoil and reading about, not one but two plots to kidnap, put on trial, and potential kill governors, really put into perspective where we are as a country. Racism and America go hand and hand. They are so intertwined that when people speak out against racism, some Americans, feel as though they are protesting America. Think of how the Trump and his supporters talk about the Black Lives Matter protestors as looters and rioters but commend Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old white teenager who shot and killed protestors, is referred to by Tucker Carlson as "maintaining order when no one else would". Trump has exacerbated this idea that to be Racist is to be American and that America is Racist and we, are now seeing the effects that racism has, not only on black people and people of color but our entire country. If racists can get away with and gain power over one group, it's only a matter of time before they come for YOU. I am reminded of a Quote at the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.

2020 will go down in history as a year of Civil unrest. Protests all over the country from a long list of black men and women dying at the hands of the police. Also, hundreds of thousands of Americans, disproportionally black and brown Americans, have lost their lives due to the Coronavirus while Trump and his Republican loyalist do little take the virus and its effects seriously. And now we can add plots to kidnap and execute Governors Taliban style.

First, they came for Black people and I did not speak out because I was not black

Then they came for immigrants and I didn't speak out because I was not an immigrant

Then they came for the LGBTQIA community and I didn't speak out because I was not a part of the LGBTQIA community

Then they came from me and there was no left to speak to for me

This is where we are, America. Trump is not only destroying the country for everyone that is not a non-white wealthy man but he is destroying the entire country and before YOU realize it there will be no left to speak for YOU - White suburban women. No one left to speak for YOU - white moderates. No one left to speak for YOU - Republican Party.

This election will be the most important in modern history not only because our Democracy, and quite literally our lives are at stake given how this administration has handled (not handled) the pandemic, but it will reveal whether YOU believe racism and America go hand and hand and the lengths to which YOU would go to destroy our country for YOUR unwillingness to acknowledge the systemic racism in our country. We thought, white people thought, to be more specific, when Barack Obama was elected president that America was above racism and white supremacy but Trump's presidency has led to an increase in hate crimes and outlandish racist behavior. There have been threats to kidnap Governors, armed Americans at a State Capital protesting lockdown orders, Karens displaying their racism and white privilege to any and everyone because they can, police killing a black woman in her sleep and getting away with it. These are but a handful of events just from this year!

This election is not about Donald Trump it is about YOU, and whether or not YOU will remain indifferent to the injustices in America until the same injustices happen to YOU. Because if YOU remain silent, you have not only sealed the fate for other fellow Americans but yourself as well.
