controversies
It seems every time one racially-charged incident ends, a gender or religious controversy takes its place; Ruminate on the issues dividing our nation and world.
Trump and the Apostles' Creed: Should He or Shouldn't He?
Much has been made in recent days of President Trump not having recited the Apostles' Creed during former President George H.W. Bush's funeral on December 5. Comments have ranged from questions regarding Trump's literacy to criticism that he is perhaps not "Christian enough" to warrant the support he does have from evangelical Christians.

Drug Addiction and Decriminalization
Drug Abuse The topic of drug abuse has gained more attention in the media recently, and for good reason. More people are looking at statistics about drug addiction in the United States, which has allowed them to see that the way we handle drug addiction and offenses has not been beneficial. According to the American Addiction Center, in 2014, around 21 and a half million people in the United States dealt with drug abuse. These numbers do not lie: America’s current drug policy needs to change in order to help those who are affected by addiction.

New Mexico—It's like a State, like All the Others!
Believe it or not, there's a big business today that exists trying to improve something that sounds like a bad oxymoron—that is customer service in government. At all levels of government—and indeed all around the world—there is a whole lot of interest among those who lead government agencies and a ready cadre of small and larger consulting and training firms out there who are willing and eager to work with the public sector to try and improve the delivery, speed, and efficiency of government services for constituents. Yes, citizens are customers!

Dear Donald Trump: Migrants with Children Aren't 'Stone Cold Criminals'
When you're a parent, you want what's best for your family. If there's a better opportunity elsewhere for you and your family to thrive, odds are pretty good that you will do what you can to take advantage of that opportunity.

Step 1: Google It!
It is Branding 101 in the modern world. Say you want to name your new product? Say you need to come up with a name for your new small business? Say you have the desire to create an organization to help those in need? What is the absolute first thing that you need to do? Well, any marketing expert worth paying anything to, any marketing textbook, heck, any freshman marketing student, would tell you exactly the same thing: Google your possible choices!

"Anchor Babies"
When you hear the term "anchor baby" what do you think of? Until recently, I didn't actually think there was such a term. The definition of an anchor baby can roughly translate to a parent, or parents, who have their children in a country in order to become a citizen.

Baraboo High School (WI): Modern Racism and Nazi Culture
The internet has absolutely exploded this past Monday, understandably so, as the photo shown above surfaced on Twitter and began to circulate rapidly. In the photo, a group of high-school Junior-aged boys join each other in a prom photo 'posing' with a "Sieg Heil" stance—the victory salute that was used infamously by Nazis at political rallies—which in name roughly translates to "Hail, my leader!" or "Hail, victory!" in English.

Nationalism Is Not Patriotism
On Veterans Day this year, we celebrate 100 years since the Armistice that ended World War I. America's European allies gathered in Paris this past weekend to honor and thank our fallen soldiers, those who lie forever on European soil after defeating Germany in 1918. It was the war that was supposed to end all world wars, but only two decades later America would once again send thousands of soldiers to fight, and to die, to rescue Europe from the Nazi menace.

Donald Trump, DON'T SHOOT!
What in the world is Donald Trump thinking this time??? Yesterday, the man made some pretty intense threats against Central American migrants heading north towards the US right now, calling for possible military force to be used against them.

When It Comes to Divisiveness, Trump Is Not the Only One to Blame
America is having a bit of a crisis right now. It is deeply divided, and it only appears to be getting worse. The most extreme case is the fact that a man, identified as Cesar Sayoc, has been arrested as a suspect in sending crude, homemade explosives to a variety of left-leaning critics of President Donald Trump including former President Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton among others, as well as CNN.

On Nationalism and Its Value
If I held a Nationalism Conference and invited a representative from every nationalist collective, what do you assume would happen? I would have a member of the Black Panther Party sitting next to an Alt-Right supporter across from a Shiite Muslim and a Jew. How much should I spend on security? Before we can consider the value of nationalism as a construct we must first understand the concept of nationalism. There have been many people who have bought in to the concept of nationalism lately, but may not fully be aware of what it truly means. Furthermore, nationalist supporters may be unaware what the social construct is fully capable of producing if left misunderstood, and to it's own devices.
