SIGNATURE SAFETY!!

Why you should use caution when it comes to your Signature.

By Crazy-InkerPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

Signing your name on any type of document whatsoever needs to be done with caution. You need to read it, understand it, agree with it 100%, AND if need be, go over it with your lawyer, otherwise, NEVER under ANY circumstances sign ANYTHING from ANYBODY. In the eyes of the law, a signature is more often than not taken as an agreement, so in other words, once you put your signature on a document of any kind, you are agreeing to and/or with whatever it is that the document says. Removing your signature from said document could be possible, but it is not a guarantee, so the absolute best thing to do would be to not apply your signature to anything that you are even slightly conflicted about.

NEVER SIGN:

*Pre-written or typed statements: NEVER sign a written or typed statement unless YOU are the person that wrote/typed it. Police statement, court statement, ANY KIND OF STATEMENT, it doesn’t matter. Even if you read it over and you don’t see anything wrong with it, DO NOT sign it until you have gone over it with your Lawyer. Once you apply your signature to a statement, then it will be taken as a statement that YOU made as well as agree with. Sure, you can probably recant it, but it would look A LOT better on your part to simply write a statement in your own words in the first place, rather than looking suspicious by having to change it after the fact.

*CPS “Safety Plan”: If you sign a CPS safety plan, then you are admitting that you are guilty of whatever it is you are being accused of, as well as agreeing to and consenting to anything and everything else that is listed in the safety plan which could be literally ANYTHING. They say that it is not an admission of guilt, but logically speaking, if you are innocent, and you have not abused, neglected, harmed, or put your children at risk in any way, then why do you need a safety plan? YOU DON’T. If you have done absolutely nothing wrong, then there is NO REASON for you to sign a safety plan. CPS are the last people that you want to have your signature on anything that you do not fully understand much less agree with. The “safety plan” most likely will not be the only thing they try to get you to sign, but unless you agree with it full heartedly AND you have gone over it with your lawyer, DO NOT sign a safety plan, case plan, or any other document they try to force on you. They might try and coerce you; they might try to intimidate you with scare tactics; they might even tell you that you don’t have a choice, but the fact is that YOU DO have a choice and without a court order, these people have NO legal leg to stand on. Typically getting a court order requires some type of proof or evidence that there is proper cause for the order, and if you have not allowed them into your home, given them any information, or signed any of their documents, then they are going to have a hard time with presenting TRUE evidence.

USE CAUTION WHEN SIGNING:

* Consent/Release Forms: You will more than likely be asked to sign these forms for different reasons throughout your life. Medical, Dental, or whatever information the form is asking for, make sure that you fully understand/agree with it, and make sure it is ONLY being released to the PROPER personnel prior to signing.

*Rental Agreements: This one is bound to come up in the lives of most people at least once. Before signing a rental agreement, thoroughly read it, make sure you understand it 100%, and address any questions or concerns that you have. Signing a rental agreement that you don’t understand or agree with is a great way to end up on Judge Judy.

*Bill of Sale: Another sure-fire way to get chewed out by Judge Judy is signing a bill of sale without caution. Read it, understand it, make sure that is PROPERLY WRITTEN before signing. Whether you are the buyer or the seller, you are both required to sign it, and so you both need to understand and agree upon it before doing so.

Conclusion:

The examples in this article are just SOME of the ways that your signature can get you in trouble if you aren’t careful. You can’t just go around slapping your signature on stuff and then deciding later whether or not it was a good choice. ALWAYS talk to your Lawyer before signing ANY legal documents. As for any other documents, use caution, and if you are unsure of whether or not to sign, then don’t until you have all the information you need in order to make the proper decision. Your signature on the right document but in the wrong hands can become a serious problem very quickly, so no matter how small or insignificant it might seem, always be mindful of exactly what you are signing.
