Mountain of Tory Mess.

Sir Keir Has a Lot of Cleaning Up to Do.

By Nicholas BishopPublished 2 years ago 3 min read
New Labour PM: Sir Keir Starmer.

Sir Keir Starmer in an article has been outlining His government's agenda. Highlighting the fact that His quickly assembled cabinet has hit the ground running. Sir Keir spoke at length about the disaster and destruction the former government had left behind.

Sir Keir said, "The last government left a mountain of mess that was like a Downing Street party". Sir Keir outlined this in an article in 'The Guardian'. Sir Keir went on "Like a Downing Street party, they've left a mountain of mess for this government to clean up".

"Arrogant, reckless, and irresponsible to the very end, they'll go down in history as the government that fiddled while the country burned. Funnily enough, at one stage, Johnson was likened to Emperor Nero. Sir Keir went on "They partied and profited out of the pandemic". They scrambled to advance their interests while millions of people were pushed into greater insecurity. And they rewarded the people who helped to crash the economy with seats in the House of Lords. Under my watch, the chaos and self-service that became commonplace under the Conservatives will never happen again".

Sir Keir added, "I have already started making those tough decisions necessary to clean up the mess and get us back on track. That won't happen overnight". The long, hard, patient, graft of making people's lives better is what you'll get from me".

Undoubtedly, if people expect things to change overnight it won't happen. 14 years of one of the worst if not the worst governments in history may take more than the 5 years that Labour has. It's good that Sir Keir has quickly assembled a cabinet ready to go. That he has set them to work right away. Like Wes Streeting calling for an investigation into the state of the NHS. Sir Keir has also met with the Labour Mayors of Liverpool, Manchester, and Birmingham. The new Prime Minister has also met with the first ministers of the devolved assemblies and parliaments. Each minister with their brief will be working from the get-go. So, some things may get better, some things may take longer. 14 years of a Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, and Sunak government have made this mess so.

While Labour has a 411 majority the 121 Tory MPs left have much soul-searching and wound-licking to do. It seems the Tories are falling out amongst themselves to find out what went wrong. The replacements for Sunak are falling over themselves to be (or not) in the leadership race. Two contenders Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman are bitching against each other on X (Twitter). These two women are beloved of the Tory right, some say far-right. This shows in modern right-wing or far-right politics (for some) ethnicity doesn't matter any more. It's the fact that these women resonate with right-wing people in what they say and stand for. Whoever eventually replaces Wishy-Washy-Rishi has a huge task to decide whether the party goes left or right. The Tories' defeat was their worst in history. With a reinvigorated Lib-Dem party and Reform UK resurrecting the Tories' fortunes may prove harder than they think. Even if they come back from this massive disaster I believe they will be in the wilderness politically speaking for years and years to come. The Tories find themselves in a position similar to what Labour were in 2019.

Sir Keir has already announced himself on the international stage. Meeting Joe Biden in the White House. Sir Keir had to pinch himself that he is now Prime Minister. Meeting Joe Biden the most powerful man in the Western world. Sir Keir has met other world leaders like German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
