Aussie and Kiwi Rivalry
Australians tell jokes about New Zealanders and vice versa. Our countries are close geographically and in many other respects. We have fought together, everyone has heard of the ANZAC’s, Australian and New Zealand Army Corp, and there is even a popular biscuit named in the honour of these soldiers.

What an Onondaga County Executive Can Do for the Community
Each state is divided into different counties because one state is geographically too large to be controlled entirely by just one government leader. To have better and more localized service delivered to the community, county executives act as heads of each subdivision in the state.

My Jaw Dropping Day Reliving Spanish History and the Transition to Democracy
A few days ago I got a text from a close family friend asking if I wanted to go on a tour of the Congreso de los Diputados. Of course I accepted, not thinking much of it. It wasn’t until I arrived that I realized what I had signed up for. We had been invited on a private tour of the Spanish government and parliament house! These buildings are only opened to the public once a year, and here we were getting our own tour!

The New Congress
The 116th Congress is run by 67 Democrats and 44 Republicans, to which I say, good. For once, Congress has some diversity. Yes, there is the occasional black representative, but see, my own people, Hispanics, have historically been underrepresented. The New York Times is a publication I got my free subscription to because my dabbling in real journalism is going nowhere without access to information like the type found in The New York Times. Okay, we have 101 fresh Representatives in the House, mostly white, although there are some people of color.

An Open Letter to Millennials
This is an open letter to all of the smart, informed, interested, and compassionate young people of my generation. I understand the confusion, anger, and, above all, disregard you may feel when it comes to politics today because I feel it too. Yes, the national and international institutions that we have grown up with, the only ones we have ever known, are in dire trouble. They are no longer capable of addressing the needs of our 21st-century lives because they were designed at a time when the world was a very different place and faced an entirely different set of challenges. But that doesn’t mean we should stand by and watch as a mockery is being made of our democracy. We are better than that and we deserve better than that.

A Letter to a Divided Nation
To The Republic, What keeps this administration up at night are the poor and downtrodden in America, those souls who long to be free from their impoverishment. What keeps this administration up at night are the African Americans who have never been able to enjoy the full rights and privileges of a nation that still only sees them as being half free. What keeps this administration up at night are the Latinos and Latinas in who live in fear of being rounded up and having their government kidnap their children. For if their children are to be kidnapped, they will surely be treated with cruelty and violence.

Save Lives—Requesting that All Police Departments Have Domestic Violence Units
So, I Finally Did the Thing. The thing I kind of said I would never do. I got “political.” If you can call it that, which I myself do not. I made my first petition to ask for change that I think could save the lives of many women that would likely otherwise end up dead. I am really hoping this thing works. Here it is:

Visiting the Holocaust Museum
“Think about what you saw.” Those are the words posted outside of the entrance to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. I can think of none more fitting. It’s one thing to know what happened, quite another to see it, yet still something else entirely to carry it with you in your heart and mind.

Anna Duggar Update: Sadly, She’s Feeling Like Her Old Self Again
We’re approaching the fourth anniversary of the Josh Duggar sex scandal, one of the biggest stories to rock the Christian patriarchy. In August 2015, Gawker discovered that former 19 Kids and Counting star Josh Duggar was a victim of the hackers who targeted Ashley Madison, a website used to arrange extramarital affairs. Josh confessed to being unfaithful to his wife and suffering from an addiction to pornography.

'These Are the Times that try Men's Souls'
"These are the times that try men's souls." Remember that quote? Some 250 years later we are again facing times that try men's souls. From wave after wave of violent carnage that shows no signs of abating, an economy all based upon a house of cards that is poised to crumble at a minutes notice, a world on the edge of a Global Warming catastrophe, to the massive depth and scope of corruption that is in not only our political system, but now has reached our legal system as well. These are all signs of the times that try men's souls.
