Why I Believe What I Believe
My content is usually pretty well-organized and thought-out. But today, things are coming at me a little differently. It’s Independence Day, the 4th of July. Previously known as one of my favorite holidays. But this year? It feels wrong. It feels wrong to celebrate a country that still holds so much racism, sexism, and the like. As I push into my late twenties, I’ve felt more comfortable and confident to stand by my morals and beliefs, whether people despise me because of them or not. I am anti-racist. I am anti-sexist. I am against any belief or moral that diminishes the value of another human life or strips them of their rights. In America, these beliefs and morals are still very much alive and practiced by millions of people.

4th of July 2020
The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day and America’s Birthday, is one of our most popular holidays, in part because it comes in mid-summer. Americans celebrate our “birthday” eating watermelon and shooting off and watching fireworks. This holiday commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia which declared that the 13 colonies were Free states and no longer subject to rule of the British King.

The Plastic Crisis
My solution that covers the plastic crisis is to clean it up. We need fleets of ships designed to do just that. California has plenty of coastlines to clean up. We have the whole of the West Coast, bedsides, to try this idea out on. 12.7 million tones of plastic winds up in our ocean every year, according to the BBC earth website. This is because plastic has trouble breaking down, being recycled and degrading. Aspergillus tubigensis is one such natural way to fix the problem as this fungus lives in warm habitats. This fungus could be let loose in a landfill, which would breakdown problematic plastics such as diapers.

My Experience With The Police
I have witnessed domestic violence since a young age. The first time I remember I was five years old. I went out to dinner with my father and another woman, who he claimed was his friend. When we arrived home, I told my unassuming mother I enjoyed dinner with this woman and my father. After an argument, I helplessly watched my mother being choked by my father. The cops were not called. The guilt of this situation weighed on me for years.

Fixing a Broken Society
In a time when human beings are seemingly more divided than ever, there is one thing I am willing to say that we can all agree on. The reality of human existence, the systems of the global human civilization is broken. Though this is not a startling revelation to any reader, it is interesting to note, that you could ask any human if they thought the current structures and state of humanity are functioning the best that they can, and I would be confident that the answer would be a resounding no.

Taking a bullet for a President
There are jobs in the world that I am thankful that I do not have. Lion tamer. Plummer. Dentist. A postal worker. These are all professions that I am glad are carried out by other people. My gratitude is based in part on my understanding of my relative strengths and weaknesses. This understanding has allowed me to understand why the job of taming lions and repairing other people's pluming belongs in the hands of other people. If forced though to identify one professional position that I would be profoundly ill suited too, particularly at this juncture in our nation's development, it would be that of a secret service agent, tasked with overseeing the protection of our current protection.

Two Strikes
Growing up, before the Sandra Bland’s the Trayvon Martin’s, the Mike Brown’s, and the George Floyd’s, there was a deep rooted, justified fear in my mother about raising a “black” son in this so-called land of the free. Now, the reason that I put black in quotations is because it is a color and it is not the color of any skin I’ve seen. It is a legal status, that basically means dead, which is why it is ok for us to be killed in cold blood by those sworn to protect us. Only, we were never meant to be a part of the “us” nor the “we” in the “We the People.” It was actually designed for us to be apart, not a part. This is why there is a fourteenth amendment and what are known as the “black codes,” which were laws put in place to convert our physical shackles into economic ones. These “black codes” are what affirmative action, fair housing, and other programs like these are meant to combat. Like my mother always told me, you have two strikes against you already being “black” and being a male.

The True Origins of the Democrat and Republican Party
If you've survived Catholic School, you will have an awareness of what a history book looks like. Wikipedia states that the Democratic Party is the oldest party. Political parties got started originally so that commoners could figure out which way to vote according to their value system. The Democratic Party was founded in 1828. The Democratic Party was founded to support Andrew Jackson, but later on it evolved to be a party that was known for its liberalism. In order to get rid of political parties, we have to assume that there is a way to live without them.
