You Are Becoming the Oppressor
History provides countless examples of genocide rising while citizens allowed it to do so by their silence and inaction. Germany, Rwanda, and the Native Americans come to mind. I, for one, will not be counted in the history books as an American who sat idly by while watching my own country commit egregious human rights violations within our own borders. Now is the time for all decent, patriotic Americans who believe in the values espoused by our founders to speak out against the migrant detention policy decisions of the Trump administration.

The British Media’s Most Elaborate Lie
The relentless momentum of Corbynism displayed during the 2017 General Election campaign has all but dissipated, Labour’s opposition to the Conservatives is lackluster at best, and most notably of all; Jeremy Corbyn is wholly unelectable… or this is what the press would have us believe.

Equiano
Throughout the journey from Africa to Montserrat, Equiano possessed a strong conscience, curiosity, dedication, and overall, high morals. Even though he was separated from his sister in the process, he maintained even the smallest amount of hope. With those traits, he was able to improve himself and be favored by those he came across. He builds confidence as well as bravery from each situation he was faced with.

The Outside Looking In
Politics are not usually an area I talk about unless it's with my closest relatives. However, seeing all the recent news coming from America makes me realize how little people know about immigration to the country. I feel like some background is needed to understand my view point. A little over two years ago I moved from the USA to Sweden. It was one of the toughest choices in my 20+ years. The choice also didn't happen overnight. My husband and I weighed our options between him moving to the states and me moving to Sweden.

If You Say in Public That You “Don’t Trust the Media” You Are a Special Kind of Stupid
Every once in awhile I run into a man at a party who brags that he carries his tire iron under the driver’s seat of his car (always a man) just in case of trouble. Knowing nothing else about this person than this one statement, I can safely assume that they are cowardly and a douchebag and cruel. Perhaps in other aspects of their life they are somewhat normal, but this statement gives them away. The same is true of people who claim to “not trust the media.” Particularly, if they say it in a way that is meant to come off as sage, and worldly. When a person says that, I, and many others, understand deep down that the speaker is a very special kind of stupid.

The Extreme Double Standards of Hollywood and Washington
We have seen an onslaught of insults, hurled by both sides of the aisle, in the recent months. There is definitely a double standard in Hollywood and the media, and Washington. More specifically, comedians and the people who seem to think they set the moral standards for the rest of the country, and the world. With the recent on-air insult hurled by Samantha Bee, and the Tweet by Rosanne, we have seen the clear double standard that exists in the media, Hollywood, and Washington. While there was pandering on both sides, I think it is clear to see who wins in the end. There will be direct quotes in this article, so be warned, there is foul language ahead, but I feel it necessary to get the point across. There is no ill will and no hatred implied, so get over it!

White Silence on Juneteenth
Today is Juneteenth, a celebration of the day on which the last remaining slaves were made aware of their freedom in 1865. However, it must be noted that not long after this was accomplished, an entirely new condition akin to slavery was implemented throughout the states.

The American Dream
When America came to be the biggest success of its century, everyone flocked to it. There were immigrants coming from all over the place. There was no hesitation, if someone wanted to be free of something or oppression or whatever it was they needed to escape, they escaped to America. The Irish, the Dutch, the German, the Japanese, and everyone else. America was a safe haven for everyone. Then the people got here and found decrepit, disgusting men that did the same decrepit and disgusting things that they did in every country that they had tried to escape. Somehow, that didn’t stop people from coming though and here’s why.

Child Labor
Chapter 1: Child Labor Child labor happens in many countries. Child labor is when children are forced into hard labor, primarily when it is considered barbaric or cruel. Although child labor happens all around the world, some of the places where child labor occurs the most include Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea, Sudan, the Dominican Republic of the Congo, and Ethiopia. Even more so, the sub-Saharan regions in Africa have child labor. They hold the highest child labor rate of 59 million children doing labor. Of the 59 million children, 10.4% are doing hazardous work like producing tobacco (which can cause nicotine poisoning) and mining (which has toxic fumes and unstable grounds). Child labor is currently a problem in many countries and continues to affect people’s lives.

What If We Change the World?
I hate the world we live in. It’s an intolerant and cruel place where you don’t get to just be yourself. I hate the fact that it’s so difficult and painful to love ourselves and to be proud; the fact that being you can also mean not being accepted by people you love. It’s so important to be proud of ourselves to be happy in this world, but it is so challenging at the same time. I hate that you get to be judged by every single person just because you’re not them. Everybody is different and no one is perfect. Isn’t it beautiful? I think it is, but society thinks the opposite. We live with society’s standards, but what is so cool about fitting in them? I don’t want to look like these girl with their perfect beach body. I love the way I look. I don’t want to be this skinny blond on these underwear ads. I don’t want to fit in these insta-babe pages. This isn’t reality. Reality is unity in diversity. The fact that we’re all different makes us a society. The fact that we have our own history and our own opinion, the fact that we weren’t all born in the same country, the fact that we have different taste, that’s what makes the beauty of a world. Sadly, there’s so many people who disagree with that, who are scared of what’s different than them. Would they prefer to live with a bunch of people who look just like them, who think like them, who speak like them? I wouldn’t. I am way too annoying. But seriously, I hate the world for making people feel miserable, for making them feel wrong. Nobody should feel guilty to be themselves. You don’t have to justify your choices or about your taste. You get to do whatever the hell you want and nobody should tell you that you can’t do something or that you’re wrong. Because they are. They are wrong to make you feel that way. I hate that in some countries, it is still illegal to marry someone of the same sex. I hate that in some places, a women doesn’t have the same right as a men. I hate that you get judge by the color of your skin or by the language you speak. I hate that you get beat up for thinking differently. I hate that the person who beat you up gets away with it. I hate that the wrong people get to have all the power. I hate that the world is controlled by a bunch of losers. I hate that the president of the USA is dumber than all the country combined. I hate that we get to follow rules that doesn’t make any sense. I hate that we fight at war and that we think it’s going to solve our problems. I hate that even after hundreds of years, the world hasn’t change. It’s still an awful place and I don’t want to live in it anymore. I wish I could change it, because believe me, I would do anything it takes to make it a place where everyone is happy and where you get to be yourself at any time. This sad world we live in doesn’t have to be this way forever.

American Nightmare
America was founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The contradictory nature of these ideals become evident through the mechanisms by which they are attained, for none of them can be maintained or achieved without prescribing oneself to a culture of monetarism and profitability that is in direct conflict with the sustainability and cultivation of life.
