Dear Donald
I understand that I am just a Canadian single mother and that you might not care about my opinion. Though I'm sure you don't care about anyone else's opinion but your own. Given that you were the leader of what is to be one of the greatest countries of the world, your actions affect not just yourself, your family or your country but the world.
I remember when you were elected. I had just had my daughter. She was only about a month and a half old, and so she was waking in the middle of the night to feed many times. I did her first feeding and before going to bed, like the rest of the world was watching the numbers. I went to sleep thinking that there was no way that you were actually going to get elected. The US could not have gone that crazy I thought to myself. She woke up for her feeding at some point in the night. I went on my phone to try to stay awake and sow the unthinkable. I thought about the sad fact that I had just welcomed this perfect little girl into a world where you were running a country. Furthermore, I was shocked and surprised to find myself to actually angry. Angry at the US people for doing this. How could this have happened? Like the world I followed the election as you ran, thinking how crazy the world now seemed. I'm not sure why you were allowed to run a campaign the way that you did. You didn't run on actually facts or a real strategy on how you were going to make the world better. Any journalist that tried to tell the truth about you and your campaign, you would never address them at all. Why the people won't listen to the truth behind your actually track record I will never know. Like the fact that most people would say that you were such a great businessman and that is why you would make a great president. They would ignore the fact that you had numerous business that didn't work and went bankrupt.
Going through your 4 years in office I would mostly watch with sadness. Sadness that so many people had to suffer through you running their country. I will always wonder why health care is not free for your country like it is for so many others. And watching you take away insurance for many Americans is a sad fact. Watching you, especially from another country, is like watching a child through a tantrum and lash out at people. The fact that you were allowed to tweet so much being in office without anyone monitoring you is ridiculous. You shouldn't be lashing out at reporters or anyone that gives you criticism in any way. As the President of the United States you are held to a different level, where you should be better than most.
And then 2020 came, with the joy of the pandemic. It was a real and serious issue and still is. My country is now on our second serious lockdown, the first spanning about 2 months, before things started being allowed to open. And your country, well most states are open and people don't seem to take it seriously at all. After a couple of weeks, you made the crazy announcement that the country had to start opening things back up. Really? People are dying, this is a serious disease and the fact that you are not taking it serious shows that you should never have been allowed to be in office. Well yes the world needs to move forward at some point, it also needs to be safe where people won't die because of it. It infuriates me that you are being allowed to put people's lives at risk. So many people have lost their lives and that is not something that is no big deal.
The saddest thing is watching how you handled this election. I didn't follow it as closely this time as I felt it sad that the world might have to deal with you in office for another 4 years. I thought that you most likely were going to win especially since you won the first time. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the American people had come to their senses and that you had not won. Thankfully this will be over, I thought. You did the one thing that no one had thought you were going to do. You tried to fight it. If you were going to take on the whole system, you better be sure that you are on the right side of things. The fact that you were not right and still tried to do it, shows how out of it that you are. And I seriously think you need to seek professional help for your life. When you lose you need to lose gracefully. Being a politician is different from just being in entertainment, you need to be diplomatic. Did Barack Obama like it when you won? No, but he did the graceful thing and made the transition easy for the country. You are running a country, it is about the people, not you. You need to do what is best for them, much like being a parent. Which is why being president is not for everyone.
You have done everything to try to change it, and I'm sure you are sitting there thinking that you were wronged. But no one cares what you think honestly. You have tried to send the country into a revolution, like the government will give in to your demands like a child. It clearly isn't going to work. At this point you need to accept the reality of the situation that you are in. And accept that it is over. You need to leave and go far away frankly. If you went into a hole never to be heard from again then we all would be happy. Let the people still left in the government try to get the country back on track. I would love to be able to visit your country one day. I see a lot of positives to living there. And maybe one day all that can happen. So let them rebuild your country so that maybe one day it can be to the great thing that it once was.
