Cursed Are The Meek Of The Earth, For They Are Well And Truly F**ked

In a world disfigured by anarchic capitalism, the meek and poor must awake from their narcolepsy and overthrow the system.

The world around us is fast unravelling. Reading the newspapers or watching the news is an entirely depressing undertaking. Our planet is imploding and exploding literally, right before our very eyes.

Those whom we entrusted to make decisions on our behalf, have betrayed us at every turn. The politicians elected to act in the interests of the people have long given up any semblance of pretending to give a fuck. Their profound incompetence and moral bankruptcy have been the defining points of their stewardship.

There are those, who will seek to defend their favourite politicians, saying Democrats are much nobler compared to their Republican counterparts, who are opportunistic, spineless and corrupt.

But I have this to say to them:

Why did Obama let off Wall Street so easily in 2009, when he had a once in the lifetime opportunity to institute wide ranging reforms to neutralize the excesses of the bankers?

Why didn't America's first Black President sign a relief check for millions of its citizens, who lost their homes, when the bankers, thought that regular folk were easy pickings or in the language of Wall Street, " a moral hazard"?

Why did Obama bomb Awulaki and his son, both of whom were American citizens out of existence in Yemen and yet on matters of importance to Black people in America, acted like a mouse?

Why did Bill Clinton, incarcerate record numbers of Blackmen, to outflank the GOP? Why did he execute Ricky Ray Rector - a man whose mental capacity was completely diminished?

Why did the same Clinton sign the welfare to work legislation in 1996, gutting the only safety net, available to millions of people, of whom Brown and Black people were the most vulnerable?

Why did Biden elect to abandon the Afghans to their fate, with millions of people, especially women dreading what their lives would become, under the repressive Taliban regime?

It is clear that we have been failed by the politicians of all stripes, sold out by these rebarbatives and abandoned to our fate.

Over the course of the last forty years, when laissez faire capitalism was gripped by a number of structural crises, these plutocrats have simply been unaffected and found novel ways of consolidating their vast wealth.

Examine every financial and economic crises since 1979 very closely.

We had Black Monday in October 1987, Black Wednesday in September 1992 in Britain, the failure of Long Term Capital Management in 1994; the Asian Tigers financial meltdown in 1997, Russia's default in 1998, the dot com and Enron crash in 2001; the global banking system collapse in 2008–2009.

And yet, all of these disruptions to global capitalism didn't lead to a complete revision of the system to protect those at the bottom, if anything, it became a means of dispossessing the poorest and meekest even further of any wealth that they might have had.

The austerity policies implemented by various western governments, accompanied by generous tax breaks to the oligarchs, made damn sure, that those getting royally shafted weren't the wealthy, but the neediest in our midst.

So I have a question: If the meek and poor are being stripped of everything they have, what exactly is left for them?

The earth.

The earth as described by Jesus, in the book of Matthew 5:5:

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth

Surely, we aren't referring to the same earth that is currently burning, in Greece, with fires raging out of control or in Britain, where we saw record levels of rainfall in the month of July 2021.

Certainly not in parts of Australia where wildlife was nearly wiped out, when intense bushfires tore through areas, due to extreme weather conditions.

When we say the earth, we aren't referring, obviously to the state of California, where the authorities have struggled a great deal in bring the inferno under control.

I am utterly convinced that it isn't the earth in Ghana and Ivory Coast, where several millions of poor people are breathing in polluted air, from petroleum imported into Africa from Europe, a product that the likes of Trafigura will never sell to Europeans, but are very happy to flog to unsuspecting Africans, who do not know any better, anyway.

And no we aren't talking about the earth of the Amazon forest, are we? not when President Jair Bolsonaro is busy gutting one of the world's most precious sources of sustenance for the sole purpose of profit for his backers.

The way things are going, I don't think that there will be much left of the earth for anyone to inherit, never mind the meek and poor.

The Meek are condemned to a life of Misery and Destitution

National governments across the world, be they democracies or dictatorships have shown that they have absolutely no desire nor the will to implement policies that will ameliorate the lives of their people.

The destitution and misery of the poor in our midst, wears a common face, regardless of their race, religion, sexuality or creed. We see and readily recognize them when we venture out of our immediate surroundings.

The wealthiest have well over $50 trillion locked away in tax havens. This is as a direct result of years of concerted effort of tax avoidance.

So if we are all on the same page that the vast majority of the global population, are condemned to destitution and misery, then what is to be done?

We need to overthrow the profoundly corrupt and morally bankrupt capitalist system.

Whether this will take the form of the ballot box or it will take people going to streets, it needs to happen.

We don't have the luxury of sitting back thinking that this is someone else's problem.

No one is coming to save the meek, the poor and destitute. A great number of those who will have got to this point in reading this article, shouldn't be deluded into thinking that they don't fall into the category of the poor, meek and destitute.

Millions of wage slaves around the world are a dismissal away from homelessness and destitution. Yes, that includes you, too.

Until the meek realize that they are cursed, well and truly fucked, nothing at all will change.
