During the first term of US President Donald Trump, he started a trade war with China by placing a 25% tariff on Chinese goods. The thinking behind this higher tariff would allow for the US to generate more revenue along with raising the prices of Chinese items being sold throughout this country.

On the surface, this idea of this tariff seemed to be ideal for the country to bring in more funds in 2018. However, US small-business owners were affected because the products that they sell in their stores were manufactured in China.

The damage of this tariff seven years ago is still affecting the US economy with the end result being that one-fifth of department stores in this nation have now closed since 2018.

However, the farmers faced the biggest consequences due to the tariff. China stopped buying soybeans from American farmers. What the administration did not factor that a higher tariff percentage multiplied by zero equals zero new revenue.

Soybean farmers throughout the country lost up to nearly half their revenue in 2018 before a trade deal was made later on that year.

After farmers felt the economic disaster of this tariff fail and the COVID lockdown during the first term did not stop farmers from voting for President Trump once again in the 2024 US Presidential General Election. In the previous election, counties that are farming-dependent voted 77.7% for President Trump, a whopping 54 point margin.

Why in the world would farmers choose to re-elect Trump in such large numbers even though they were almost put out of business in his first term?

Many of the farmers thought that the stricter immigration deportation policies that would be implemented would only go after criminals instead of the migrant laborers that work at their farms.

Well, they were wrong. Even superstar singer Carrie Underwood was upset that she voted for Trump. Her 400-acre farm was in shambles because the farmhands that were once working there were now in hiding so that they would not be captured by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

One would think that farmers would be the first ones that explicitly knew about the concept of sowing and reaping. However, this is what the farmers voted for! These farmers voted for their own demise. The boomerang of life have hit these farmers up side the head.

Unfortunately, these farmers are being hit even harder this second time around. After the new tariffs were placed on China in April, China began to solely buy soybeans from Brazil. Presently, the US has gone back to China to work out another trade deal. However, the talks have hit a snag over precious rare-earth metals.

We are only 10 months into President's Trump second term with so many farmers feeling so much regret. However, we have three years and two months to go because this is what you voted for.

Below is a video of a song created through AI about voters feeling the consequences of their election decision-making one year ago.

Yup! This is what you voted for!

Farmers not being able to transport their food throughout the US and to other countries have disrupted the nation's supply chain. This disruption has led to thousands of flights being cancelled due to business slowing down. Good luck flying if the shutdown continues throughout the holiday season.

Prices of food are back on the rise. For example, the price of eggs was all the way down to $1.06 per dozen back in October. The price has gone up eighty cents already during this shutdown. The longer the shutdown continues, the price of eggs will go through the roof again like what happened during February.

To close out this post, have some fun listening to this AI country music song about eggs.
