It is. Every day we leave the house, we need to be ready to defend ourselves, to stand up and speak out.
And for people who don’t fit into the “middle class white abled bodied” woman narrative, those people march every day also. Those would be women who may be special needs, disabled, poor, at risk, and they don’t have the luxury of singling out one day to show their frustration with the system.
And those who are LGBTQIA, they have to march everyday, because for them, they have to stand up for themselves since they don’t fit into the traditional male/female scripts that have been handed down to them by societal and cultural norms.
I was reading some other opinions about the march, some by women of color, who expressed a somewhat different take on the marches.
I understand where they were coming from.
Because their view did not fit the “normal” narrative of the march. Their view may come across as being unappreciated by those who were marching.
In reading about the marches across the US, all I kept hearing was “the women were so cooperative, they were nice, no fights broke out, it was a calm march.”
That’s such a gender script. Be nice.
This is your bodies they are talking about. This is your environment they are going to ruin. This is your loved ones who will be hauled off, due to immigration issues. This is your health care disappearing without a replacement.
I wanted to see some angst. I wanted to see some anger. I wanted the world to see that this is SERIOUS shit coming down the pike, for women, for EVERYBODY that doesn’t fit HIS definition of an AMERICAN.
As for getting under the presidents’ skin?
Remember, we’re women. He could care less.
“When you’re famous, they’ll let you do ANYTHING.”
Guess what?
He’s FAMOUS now…
And he’s going to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that we women and any other marginalized group can’t stand.
Are you angry yet?
You should be.
Trump has already reinstated the Global Gag Rule concerning abortions.
In keeping with a long-standing Republican policy that began with President Ronald Reagan, President Donald Trump on Monday reinstated the “global gag rule,” an order that bans organizations in other countries from providing information about abortion or offering abortion services if they benefit from U.S. funding.
Research also shows that the gag rule is actually linked to a rise in abortion rates around the world. A 2011 study from Stanford researchers looked at the abortion rates among some 260,000 women in 20 African countries from 1994 to 2008, and found that restricting funding for clinics that provided abortion services led to an uptick in abortion rates.
Granted, the world is lucky in this respect, because the Dutch government has stepped in to fill the void.
I wonder…
Who is going to fill OUR void?
Are you angry yet??
