Are we ready for national bankcruptcy?

FEMA is not the SuperHero of recent tragedies

By Shanon Angermeyer NormanPublished about a year ago 3 min read
Fallen trees, debris, and junk are all over the cities hit by the Hurricanes

The national debt of the United States of America is more than 35 Trillion dollars today, October 18th, 2024. That's over $106,000 for every single person in America. How many jobs do you have? How many jobs have you had? How much money have you earned in your lifetime? More than 100k?

After Hurricanes Debbie, Helene, and Milton is everyone just laughing, crying, or giving up? I drove down the street yesterday and almost cried when I saw the American flag still up and waving. Then I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw that Hooters patio was packed with attendees. You've got $50 right now to spend at Hooters? Really?

It's not fake news regarding the destruction and damages that have occurred all over Florida and other places. While homeowners are crying about having just lost everything they have "worked" for, many of them are now discovering the "joy" of homelessness, and more (than should be) of them are sitting around in shock waiting for FEMA to be their superhero. I am scratching my head perplexed, wondering why nonprofit organizations are turning away volunteers as they request funding. I am scratching my head perplexed as to why I got up at 4 a.m. this morning to show up at a Labor Staffing Agency that didn't have one job for ten people in the waiting room even at 6 a.m. That telephone should have been ringing off the hook.

But that would make too much sense, right? It's more appropriately insane to sit around waiting for FEMA to rescue us, or going to spend $50 at Hooters. That's the insanity that we embrace in "normal" civilization, right?

The current Treasurer of our nation (USA) is Janet Yellen who was born in Brooklyn in 1946, making her 78 years old. Now I know why they don't call me "old" at age 53. I'm sure Janet could tell you all about the National Defecit and how many Americans affected by these hurricanes are in for a sad surprise when they realize that FEMA doesn't have any money. What? You didn't think Home Owner Insurance was a wise investment? You thought that your careless spending ways and ridiculous legislation was going to protect your assets? Did you vote for Janet? Why should she care about the defecit or your homelessness? She can go live the rest of her days at some pathetic nursing home.

This morning at the Labor Staffing Agency was another annoying wake up call. I went there this morning at 5 a.m. after signing up yesterday because I thought that I should WORK on building a savings account, something that my pathetic minimum wage life has not accomplished yet. I spoke to the other employables and the manager and the conversation were almost shocking to me.

The manager explained that he wasn't getting any calls for work for those of us waiting in the waiting room to get out there. The other employables were discussing everything from Amendments on the upcoming voting ballot to the trucking industry. The information shared was definitely disturbing to say the least.

I left realizing that without callers providing tickets to the employables in the waiting room, it was a futile attempt on my part to be useful to the city or myself.

Then I drove back home thinking about words like "volunteers" and "essentials". I have much to say about those two words. Call me rude if that appeases you, but it's definitely my opinion that if you work as a Disney World employee, a McDonald's burger flipper, or a Hooter's waitress, you are not "essential". As for volunteers, if the best you can do for your country is sell a pumpkin in this time of crisis, you are not an essential volunteer either.

Some great points here. Many jobs are not "Essential", but make a lot of money. Many "Essential" jobs should be Focused on, yet aren't (for a variety of reasons). Humanity is in a difficult place today due to how society has things set up currently.
