All That Sucking and Punching is the D.C. Way

Jasmine Crockett may face censure in Congress, but if she does, is it fair? A systemic problem that Democrats ignore.

Let’s face facts. It’s getting rougher and rougher in Washington, and nobody wants to be there. The old guard…well, they’re very old. And the younger generation wants little to do with a government they can’t trust or depend on to set the stage for a promising future.

As the two parties continue to engage in nearly useless banter in committees, what has happened to the Democratic Party over the years is nothing short of an existential crisis. They are confused about what country they are in, and they believe the rules don’t apply to them for some unknown reason.

Remember the language Donald Trump used during his address on January 6th, 2021. Donald Trump was impeached and indicted due to poorly chosen wording. The Democrats all clamored for his prosecution, as they’ve done since he announced he was running for office in 2015.

Comparing the language used by Donald Trump to that of other politicians leads one to wonder why the Democratic Party isn’t smart enough to publically condemn Jasmine Crockett for her poorly chosen words. Consider her statement on the Fox News App.

“It’s Ted Cruz, I mean, like this dude has to be knocked over the head, like hard, right?”

— Jasmine Crockett via the Fox News App

Jesus knows if Donald Trump had said such a thing, the hounds of justice would be nipping at his heels, and it would be a sound bite until the next not-so-bright thing he spouted came to light. Why is there no strong condemnation of such violently inciteful rhetoric by the Democrats in Washington? Is it because they feel like they are better than everyone else? Is it because they’re just not that smart and can’t seem to control their colleagues' behavior? Whatever the reasoning, there’s a chance they’re just prone to violent thoughts.

Look at the recent history of some of their more outspoken.

“Stay on the street.”

or

“Get More Confrontational,” on the subject referring to the trial of Derek Chauvin, the cop that went to prison in the George Floyd case.

Maxine Waters is certainly old enough to know what that could have meant as she was around for the Rodney King trial and the following L.A. riots after that acquittal.

And these people are our leaders?

“You can’t be civil with a party that wants to destroy what you stand for.”

— CNN Interview with Hillary Clinton

Huh, one might wonder what she meant by that. Is the former first lady of one of the most beloved presidents the type to advocate or approve of political violence?

What about Eric Holder, the Former US Attorney General? While Michelle Obama always advocated for taking the high road (Nope, not a fan, but when you’re right, you're right), Eric Holder was quoted as saying, “No. No. When they go low, we kick them.”

Fight him in the streets! That was the sentiment of Joaquin Castro of Texas in 2019 when the president considered declaring a “national emergency.” Fight him in the streets? Hopefully, it’s hyperbolic, but again, this is somebody using a platform where the message spreads far and wide, and they’re unaware of how this can incite violence. No, they’re aware.

Senator Jon Tester of Montana was once quoted as saying, “punch Trump in the face.” That one was easy to find on the wildly popular X, formerly known as Twitter.

This stuff has been going on far too long. Inciting violence, using violently inciteful rhetoric, and acting as if you’re above recourse as a member of Congress isn’t a good look for our country. But, much like the children we’ve sent into the world, if nothing happens to the Democrats who uttered violent rhetoric, like Clinton, Waters, Tester, and so many others, why punish Crockett?

It’s an easy question to answer. Because adults have to be held accountable for themselves, no matter how bad Mommy and Daddy might have been. She’s really to young to understand that progressive Democrats have trashed her party, and that the Democratic party sucks right now. She just followed along with what she wanted to be a part of.

I appreciate that you have lifted up the anecdotes from Democrats that could have been taken as fomenting or instigating violence without bothering to look for even more frequent reminders from them that promoting violence is never the answer (in response to a Democrat having said something more or less inappropriate). Where is your umbrage over the explicit calls to violence that proceed from Trump's mouth every day, most of which end with Republican apologists either explaining his words away or declaring why they are appropriate. Call out Trump for any of his ubiquitous bullying & calling for violence against those who oppose him & find yourself primaried if you're in congress, targeted for hate if you're not, & declared absolutely un-American. If Crockett gets censured for using an idiom that, taken literally, could incite violence, that's fine. It's appropriate. She should apologize if her words could have been or were misconstrued or felt threatening to others. That having been said, GOP & all of MAGA, look to your own house because it's made of very fragile glass.

  • Jasmin is my favorite person. Then I am a progressive liberal Californian. I am 75. That's my story so let it be. You and I cannot have coffee.

  • Jasmine Crockett should not be censured for speaking the truth. Because we sure as well know that the Republicans and the Trump administration have a problem with speaking truth.
