Kaspa: The Fastest Proof-of-Work Layer 1 Blockchain

This Layer 1 blockchain will definitely blow your mind!

By Bitcoin RealmPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

What is Kaspa?

Kaspa is currently considered the fastest PoW (Proof of Work) network, which uses BlockDAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) technology. It is the world's first BlockDAG ledger architecture that supports parallel blocks and instant transaction finality. Kaspa's uniqueness lies in its use of the PHANTOM protocol, which allows for high block rates, eliminates orphaned blocks, and maintains a secure proof-of-work environment.

Kaspa's native token KAS has shown explosive growth since April this year. The price of KAS reached 0.04161 USDT on 2 April 2023, which is an increase of over 200% compared to the previous period.

Is Kaspa's sudden popularity considered as lucky or is it a brilliant project indeed? This article will talk about Kaspa's potential and development.

Scalability

One of the most notable features of Kaspa is its scalability. In November 2021, the Kaspa mainnet was launched using the Golang language (referred to as the Go version). Unlike other cryptocurrencies with limited block sizes, the size of KAS blocks is unlimited, which means Kaspa can process more transactions per second, making it more efficient and faster.

In July 2022, Kaspa began its Rust rewrite, and the Rust Alpha version was officially released in April of this year. Rust's ownership model and low-level control over memory management make it easier to write concurrent and parallel code, which can help the platform handle more transactions without slowing down. The Rust Alpha version is estimated to have a processing speed of up to 32 BPS (blocks per second), which is 32 times faster than the previous Go version's 1 BPS (blocks per second). Additionally, the Rust rewrite can improve Kaspa's security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Scalability has been a challenge for many networks in the crypto ecosystem, and Kaspa solves this problem by increasing the number of blocks generated and confirmed per second. With the Rust rewrite, Kaspa will move towards the goal of 100 BPS (blocks per second), which means that in the future, Kaspa will be able to support a large number of transactions on the network more smoothly, achieving high efficiency, making it extremely attractive to developers, users, and businesses.

Mining details of KASPA (minerstat.com)

Mining

After Ethereum switched from PoW consensus to PoS consensus last year, KAS became a new target for GPU miners and was listed as one of the most profitable GPU mining tokens. Kaspa uses the KHeavyHash algorithm and is optimized for security and speed based on the PHANTOM protocol (Nakamoto consensus). As it is well known, the slow block generation rate of traditional cryptocurrencies has resulted in high differences in mining income, but the fast block generation rate of the Kaspa consensus layer reduces differences in mining income and helps to achieve mining decentralization.

Because Kaspa uses BlockDAG technology to optimize the PoW mining protocol, blocks can reference multiple earlier blocks instead of just a single parent block. This pattern is clearly superior to single or parallel blockchains, so in Kaspa, no blocks are wasted or isolated, and all blocks are published to the ledger, without wasting mining power. With its unique innovative technology, Kaspa has improved mining performance, and its popularity among miners is growing.

Conclusion

As a pioneer in the emerging field of BlockDAG, Kaspa has a significant advantage in this innovative technology, and its scalability feature allows for higher TPS and BPS without sacrificing security. Since the launch of its mainnet, KAS has seen strong price growth even during bear markets.
