Would you trade style for comfort?
What is a fashion trend? Well, most perceive a trend as something they begin to notice everywhere they look. Fashion on the other hand is something that each person might perceive differently. So when a type of fashion is trending, then it is most likely something that a good percent of the population finds appealing, the trendy hippy dress and 60's era clothing, for example. For me, skinny jeans would be a fashion trend that I, personally, never found appealing like many did and still do. On the other hand, the Victorian days had a fashion sense that I would love to see come back as a fashion trend.

An ode to the baggy clothing of the 90's.. Top Story - May 2021.
Baggy clothing has been littered through many a decade from the 70's to modern day, but none capitalised on their appeal like the nineties. From TV shows like 'Friends' and 'Buffy the vampire slayer' to bands like 'Sonic Youth' and 'Nirvana', oversized and baggy clothing was everywhere you looked.

Tumblr in 2012
There was a time when Tumblr, fashion blogs, and Lookbook had a chokehold on the internet and in the magazine world. The year was 2012 - before Grimes met Elon Musk, Rihanna was still making music, Lana del Rey wore flower crowns and actually used professional photos for her album covers, and it was socially acceptable to wear galaxy patterned leggings.

Nifty Nineties
Sweet yes! Nostalgic most definitely! S stands for shirt dresses! See! She wore her favorite shirt dress. Indeed, vogue and fashion have never been a focus or priority for me. As one who has never taken fashion seriously, my clothes sense would best be described as practicable and sensible. Never pretentious!

FASHION TRENDS OF THE 70'S
Anyone who’s paid attention to the catwalk these past few seasons will know that 70s fashion still inspires designers such as Victoria Beckham, Chloe and Gucci today. That decade was quite simply bold and overstated at its best. Continuing the 1960s fashion theme of individual style, flares, platforms, fringing and suede dominated the 70s fashion era with icons aplenty; Joni Mitchell, Cher, Bianca Jagger and more making huge waves in the style world. It’s safe to say the seventies’ style was a stark contrast from the 1980s fashion that followed it. So many trends defined the 70s, not least the boho trend which Sienna Millar revived in the 00s. Peasant blouses, tie dye, bell sleeves, crochet dresses and bell bottoms were all staples of that trend.

Bring back baggy
Kids in the nineties were relaxed, we just wanted to chill out, and this was reflected in the clothes we wore. There was a comfortable, laid-back attitude that pervaded life and this was encapsulated perfectly by bands like the Happy Mondays, particularly in their song ‘Loose Fit’. “Don't need no skin tights in my wardrobe today”, Sean Rider sang and he was right.

What a Feeling
The 1980s was a period of many dreams. The arts and entertainment were the centers of my life. For young female adults who weren't ready for the business uniform of a more traditional nine-to-five job, a more casual comfortable attire became the norm. Music videos became very popular during this period. Everyone had their favorites. Dance movies, like Fame, hit the screen. These films influenced my dreams as well. I never became the next Madonna but I had fun trying. I spent my college years taking Jazz dance classes and singing at open mics. I think I watched every dance movie that hit the screen. These movies influenced my fashion style as well. I loved the fashion styles of this period. Clothes of comfort. Both emotional comfort, and practicality comfort.

March of the Mods
The year was 1965, I was thirteen years old and I opened the box as though I were opening a chest full of jewels, Inside the thin layer of cardboard and hidden beneath a mountain of tissue paper were my first pair of Chelsea boots This was to be the first stage of my becoming a Mod (short for modernist) At the school I attended you were either a Beatles (Mod) fan, or a Rolling Stones (Rocker) fan, even though the Stones would early in their careers opt for the mod look, the point was that there was no in-between, you were what you wore when you clambered out of your school uniform and hit the streets. I opted for the mod look, even though I was a massive Stones fan.
