NFL MVP controversy: Why Josh Allen's award win over Lamar Jackson at NFL Honors was so surprising.
NFL MVP controversy: Why Josh Allen's award win over Lamar Jackson at NFL Honors was so surprising. The NFL Honors ceremony is always a night filled with anticipation celebration and occasionally controversy. This year the MVP award took center stage as Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills edged out Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens in one of the closest votes in recent memory. The result was so surprising that even Allen himself expressed shock at winning the award sparking a wave of debate among fans analysts and players alike. Josh Allen’s MVP win marks a significant milestone in his career but it also raises questions about the voting process and the criteria used to determine the league’s most valuable player. Allen had a stellar season throwing for 4,544 yards 37 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while adding 524 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. His dual threat ability and leadership were instrumental in leading the Bills to a 13-3 record and the AFC East title. However Lamar Jackson’s season was equally if not more impressive. Jackson the 2019 MVP threw for 3,678 yards 24 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions while rushing for 821 yards and 5 touchdowns. He led the Ravens to a league best 14-2 record and was widely considered the frontrunner for the award heading into the ceremony.
