We came together at a resort in the woods. The only other people up there at the time were fishermen and women, a few grouse hunters with their hunting dogs, and friends. It is quiet, especially if you come from a large city.

Retreating Into the Country Up North
Yes, there will be yoga, by a master yoga teacher or two. Well, one of them will be providing guided meditation and meditation walks. The retreat this year is to be held at a resort in northern Minnesota. Not too far from where I grew up.

When Trauma Advocates Say This They Aren't Being As Helpful As They Think They Are
Without a doubt, there are few people who annoy me more than trauma validators. What is a “trauma validator”? Well, in the simplest terms, they are well-meaning people who say really gross things that validate the horrible experiences that happen around them. It’s not really their fault. They’re trying to reframe painful experiences and shine a “new light” on them, but their good intentions go too far.

The Calm
She walked over to the edge of the rooftop of the 15-story apartment complex where she lived. It was really dark, but I guess that’s the distinguishing feature of night. The stars above shone brighter today, right? Or she hadn’t been out much to notice their comparative brightness anyways. There was barely any movement below. Some cars passed by and people stepped out of them, walking into the building, but beyond that, even the birds dared not animate.
