On Favors
A reason is not required to say no to a favor I had occasion to ask someone for a favor recently. I will not indicate the relationship of this person to me, nor relay the nature of the request as in my view these things are irrelevant, or should be. The person said no and then proceeded to give a litany of reasons why they could not do this particular favor for me. While I could appreciate the impulse to try and soften the blow, or make me understand their position, or whatever I began to wonder why this person felt so compelled to provide such an exhaustive list.

My Life As an Empath
Driving has always been hard, I love the driving part but the other cars feel as if they are pressing in on me. I can’t drive on the freeway, the intensity is too much. I can feel the hostility of other drivers, whether it’s outright or simply hurried energy to get where they want to go.

Gifts of Empathy
Since 2013, I have been on a journey to uncover my empathic self. I use the word "uncover" because I believe we all have the ability to be empathetic. It has just been hidden underneath layers and layers of armor, armor that had gotten in the way of my being my true self, the self that is naturally attracted to all forms of love, including empathy. To give empathy, you have to be willing to put down your armor. But how can you put down that armor if you can't even see it? To uncover my empathic self, I had to first uncover my armor. This was not an easy task considering that it was celebrated in my family.

The N Word
God no, not that one! This one, Narcissism. It's the second most commonly used word in our society today, covid being the first... Truth be told, I'm sick of the word because depending on who's talking about it, you can get lost in the sauce! I'm going to start by saying that it is easy to call someone a name or diagnose someone especially when you believe that you are a victim of their behavior. The sad truth, however, is that at one point or another, we have been the person inflicting the injustice or invalidation and making another person feel like they are just not that important... It's called being Human, or maybe a spiritual person will say, not healing from traumas. We experience such a wide range of emotions throughout our lives (many new to us) as we deal with depression, anger, resentment, abandonment... the list goes on and on... That what you need, is to catch your breath and try to understand what is happening to you. If you can't understand yourself, what led you down that road, why you are where you are, reacting and responding the way you are, what boundaries you overlooked, never had or didn't know that you needed... (that's a mouthful I know) If you are currently "processing" your emotions internally and therefore lacking in the capacity to make time for someone else's problems, or issues, this does not make you a narcissist. So, let's get into it...

Announcer Voice: The Contentious Accent of the Airwaves
When putting one’s voice out into the public ear, one needs to consider how to project their voice to properly convey the subject matter at hand, for listeners are quick to judge not only what one says but how they say it. Knowing this, broadcasters of radio and other voice related media outlets have developed a specific accent commonly known as “announcer voice” since the medium’s inception that presents the cordialness and confidence a general audience desires. However, points of contention have been raised against having a specific voice set to govern broadcasting media as a whole, challenging the idea that one supposedly needs to adhere to this accent in order to see success in the field. In reality, the accent of the airwaves has always been adaptive and continues to evolve in conjunction with the medium itself to better accommodate a wide range of audiences.
