Advice and tips on managing mental health, maintaining a positive outlook and becoming your happiest self.
Your Satisfaction is not Your Identity
Identity. Individualism. The downfall of the West. We have long been separated from something truly meaningful. We find our meaning through our outward projections of what we think is our entire self. But we are yet unaware or simply in denial about what is essential to human life.

Hurry Up & Wait!
Dear egotistic being, We’re going against the grain with this one. I’ll tell you exactly what I’m going to do. I’ll try to identify your regressive defaults, bring them to life then shatter your world with how unnecessary they’re and then try to open your eyes to a nonverbal sense of guidance. I might throw in how you’ve been exposed to guidance already. Through verbal suggestions, choices, education, precautions and the mere unknowingness expressed by your immediate area and/or unpredictable people and places. Good thing you listened only AFTER the fact that the insight was helpful. But you relied (unconsciously; without effort) on your laziness to skip past the crucial helpfulness even with the most simple and brainless of advice to enhance you. That’s a lesson, like our last conversation, but it tips us into this new discussion. The emerging/emerged signs. Objective one done. This is going to be a hell of a ride, fasten your seatbelts.

Psychiatric Hospitalization Survival Guide
There may come a time during your mental health recovery journey that inpatient psychiatric hospitalization is required. Thanks to the stigma we face, common misconceptions being passed as fact and a slew of other factors many of us look at mental illnesses differently than we do medical illnesses. In fact, it’s typical that mental illness is viewed as scary or dangerous...even contagious. I could (and believe me, I will) write an entire article on this aspect of mental health advocacy, but that is for another day. I bring this up, however, because stigma, misconceptions and other issues make the difficult decision to be hospitalized for your mental health even harder. This is serious because it literally involves matters of life and death, when we require inpatient care we are experiencing a life-threatening emergency.

Bipolar Business
One of the first things that I mention about myself as a business professional is not usually the fact that I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and PTSD. Being Bipolar is something that affects my life everyday as a mom, as a person and quite often as a business owner.

The Downside to Being Goal-Oriented
Lately, I have been thinking about the dark side of grit and in particular how being goal-directed in the extreme can be a bad thing. If you are spending a large proportion of your 168 hours per week pursuing goals, you may be spending fewer hours savoring the present moment being mindful. So these strivers who are rushing around getting stuff done, are maybe less happy. Maybe they’re just missing out, right? I mean, let me ask you this, in a given day, what percentage of time that you’re awake do you think you are having goal-directed thoughts versus the percentage of time where you have no goal in mind? You’re maybe eating a really good piece of brisket.

What Are Opiates?
What are opiates? Opiates include over-the-counter and prescription pain-relief medications that are derived from morphine, which is a natural compound that occurs in certain poppy plants and seeds. These medications, which are officially approved for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain in humans, are also known as opiate pain relievers. They include codeine, diaphragm, hydrocodone, and morphine; however, there are other types of opiates that include oxycodone, hydromorphone, hydromethane, and methadone.

You're not that important
About five years ago I did a ton of work on myself. Mental health mostly, but I also lost about 120 lbs. I felt great, looked great, and I was trying to make a habit of not concerning myself with superficial problems. One of my mottos (mantras, affirmations, whatever…) was that I'm not that important. And it helped me tremendously.

The Only God You Should Be Praising Is Your Own Mind
Was Buddha the first mental health professional in history? Arguably! If I say the words Zen philosophy, images of monks in monasteries will surely come to mind. Perhaps you imagine people with shaved heads who made vows of silence. Well... I would imagine it too so I don't judge you for a single second.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO SOLVE A PROBLEM USING YOUR INTUITION
I came across Christie Marie Sheldon through MindValley, which is a company that I discovered a couple of years ago that focuses on personal growth and offers courses, masterclasses and books from the best authors in personal development in the world. Christie Marie Sheldon is an intuitive healer and energetic coach which is not something that you would come across on a daily basis and it is one of those persons that can read your aura. If you have ever read about chakras and your chi energy or your aura then, that’s what she does. She can see it. She knows everything about you in an instant. I have experienced this with one of our Romanians energetic coaches and finding more information and insights from around the world, makes the initial learning far more precious and demonstrates once again, that we are more than this physical body. We are energy.

Maxim Creep
Balance The topic of balance came up recently in a conversation with a friend. She was relaying the results of one of those personality tests that claim they can classify your personality “type” based on certain behaviors, characteristics, and/or tendencies. There are hundreds but the vast majority are based on the Meyers-Briggs classification system which is itself an out-shoot of Karl Jung’s personality type theory. The point of this post is not to debate the merits of Jung’s theory, like many theories in the social sciences, it has its proponents and detractors. Instead I will accept it as generally accurate and ask what that implies from a self improvement perspective.
