Introduction

This story started in 1985 in a village in India where suicides were common in those days. Young men and women, facing challenges and difficulties in life used to die by consuming pesticides which are used to protect fields from pests. This story also shows how untreated generational trauma affects lives of children in those families for decades together and even to till date. This is the story of a girl baby who lost her mother to suicide when she was only a year old and left by her dad. The story of survival, rejection, resilience and a divine protection. The girl's name is Priscilla and her mother's name is Shushan

Shushan Family & Childhood:

Shushan was born in the wealthiest family in that village. Her father owned 60 acres in that village and had several possessions. Her mother belongs to a very large family of 9 siblings and is the eldest. Shushan had two elder brothers, and she is the youngest in the family. She loved her father very much. When she completed her elementary school, she was put into hostel for high school in nearby town. In those days parents used to marry their girl children at very young age in between 15 and 19. So Shushan got married at the age of 17 after her parents made her quit high school studies in middle.

Shushan Marriage life:

After marriage Shushan moved to her husband's home which is also in the same village as hers, just a few streets away from her home. Shushan was very loving person and also at the same time she was so much fearful. She was very much afraid of her mother-in-law and also her neighbors in the new place. She got conceived after few months of marriage and gave birth to a beautiful girl child Priscilla. Days were going on and Shushan was happy seeing her child growing, but there were some family issues going on and disturbing her mind.

Before proceeding further, A little information about Shushan's father early life. Shushan's father lost his mother as soon as he was born because in those days there was no sufficient medical help. So, he was raised by his father. His father took very good care of him without remarrying. Since he grew up without mother's love, at the age of 16 itself, he got addicted to heavy drinking and smoking. Then he got married and Shushan and her brothers were born. Although he loved his children, he was irresponsible and never took good care of them because of his addictions. He was in drunk state from early morning to late night, wasting all his money.

So, coming back to Shushan marriage life, now she was in such a situation where she was afraid of in-laws, could not share her problems with her father because of his addictions and not even to her mother because her mother was busy in taking care of her grandmother who was admitted in hospital because of cancer. Though Shushan was wealthy and had many relatives (remember her mother had 9 siblings) she could not share her problems with anyone including her both brothers and sister in laws. Surrounding by worst fear, darkness, hopeless and helpless situations, one day she committed suicide at the age of 19 by drinking pesticides found in her home which is used to spray on fields.

So, Priscilla was a year old when she lost her mother to suicide, an innocent girl baby who knew nothing about the things happened in the family. Priscilla's father also left her and got remarried. So, with in a day, Priscilla life turned upside down, from a rich baby to an orphan struggling to survive, both in wealth and relationships. This is the story of her life battles, resilience and growth.

This story of Priscilla is heart-wrenching. It shows how tough life can be, especially when generational trauma gets involved.
