The Company That Brings Flowers To Patients In Hospitals

Today started off as any normal chemo day, however honestly I thought I’d be turned away since I was sick last week. Alas, my labs were super this week, so chemo proceeded as normal. On the infusion floor, there are always two elderly volunteers who are amazing. They go around each section of the infusion floor asking chemo patients if they want anything from snacks, beverages and even warn heated blankets. Around eleven they bring by a small light lunch, half sandwich, chips, a drink and a snack for later. However something different happened today, today I received flowers from them with a person from the company called Random Acts of Flowers.

This company gets flowers donated from all different kinds of circumstances (weddings, funerals, etc), and create a bouquet to hand out at the hospital. They are a non-profit company that loves to bring smiles on patient‘s faces. The woman who was talking to me and telling me about it was super sweet. The flowers in the picture above is the one I picked and the flowers smell so nice. It was a different change in pace. It no longer smelled like an alcohol wiped down hospital. The scents of floral flowers swept up and down the hall ways, and hearing patients become happy when they picked their flowers. My heart would melt every single time. On top of the flowers today, three cancer patients rang the victory bell today. Every time we go, there usually isn’t any bell ringing and it’s very quiet. The halls were full of smiles and laughter, happy tears and the bell ringing. I honestly cannot wait to ring the bell myself.

Anyway, back to the flowers. So the flowers come with a card that gives a little more information about the company and their personal website (linked above). However, what really is cool is that it tells you what family donated the flowers and who put the bouquet together. Their company encourages personal moments of kindness, improvement of mental health and well being. The flowers I received today were from the Wilson Family, and put together by Miss Amy. I don’t know if this will ever reach the Wilson Family or Miss Amy, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for this beautiful flower arrrangement. I don’t know the circumstances of the donated flowers, however, I will cherish them for the rest of their little life span. I believe they have other chapters or other branches in other states. Please, if you have real flowers for any occasion, please donate to Random Acts of Flowers. You never know who truly needs to have a smile put on their face. It definitely put a smile on mine, and made my day a little bit brighter.

Inside the Card That Came With My Flowers

The rest of the day was spent on two hours of sleeping, playing on my Nintendo Switch playing Harvest Moon: Winds of Anthos, and getting beaten to a pulp at the Pokémon Gym on Pokémon Go at the hospital. Also having some snacks here and there with water or Sprite Zero. I took some obligatory photographs, one of me in the chair, and one with me and my good buddy Larry, my chemotherapy pump. Yes, I did name the pump Larry. Why? I don’t know, he seemed like a Larry to me!

My Support Pump - Larry. He chills with me and Callie.

Today was an overall good day and I am beyond excited. I have two more treatments left before I can ring the bell myself. I can only hope and pray that those will be the last two times I ever have to do chemo again. Time will only tell. Stay tuned for more exciting stories!
