How magical mushrooms affect mental health

Did you know depression was the main cause of disability? The world is in a state of sadness, and it shows. I wonder what has caused this and why it’s grown over time. It’s said about 280 million people in the world suffer from depression, so there’s never a need to feel alone. Medical News Today shed light on suicide being the fourth leading cause of death, these days. Mental health is vital, and I think it’s very important you find ways to cope in this life.

Depression looks and feels different just like anxiety. Often, we look at the physical aspect of one another like, if we’re taking care of our hygiene or if we’re eating regularly, to ensure that someone is not feeling depressed. The interesting fact is, sometimes signs aren’t as obvious. Medical News Today explained that not having clear thoughts and a loss of interest can also be signals you’re emotionally negative. Even weight gain can communicate depressed emotions are stored up. Oddly, today’s world has begun to call weight gain “happy weight”. Ultimately, it’s important you fill your own cup to avoid feelings of depression.

I really enjoyed reading Medical News Today break down how each age group possibly deals with depression. I expected to see that woman express depression through mood swings and sleeping, and men get more physical. Luckily, you’re less likely to meet a depressed man because only nine percent of the 280 million are affected. I thought it was interesting to know a depressed man stays away from social gatherings and buries themselves in work. Teens and young adults often experience insomnia and poor concentration when they’re feeling depressed. Children, cry and act out. They may experience behaviors of clinginess, be mindful of these nonverbal cues.

Much like anxiety, anything can trigger the depressive feeling and there’s therapy and medication to help cope. I found an article on research with psychedelic mushrooms and a common antidepressant. Soren Emerson of Massive Science delicately explained how researchers of London took a sample of 60 people and tested the effect of mushrooms and another control group with escitalopram, an antidepressant. Although the study had its limitations, psilocybin proved to be more productive than escitalopram. The study did prove that the two forms of medication can reduce depression but there is no statistical difference.

Hopefully one day the new legal drug will be “magical mushrooms”. I’ve heard the trip is great, and even artist like Jhene Aiko vouch for the experience. I’ve read a lot about finding relaxation techniques and committing to an exercise routine really does help with depression and anxiety feelings. It’s saddening to know so many in the world suffer from this, but it’s more reassuring knowing it’s a source out here to remind us of good things in life. Stay simple.

Reflective questions

1. How do you SERIOUSLY use drugs? Are they for fun or is there a feeling you’re trying to escape?

2. Is exercise a part of your daily routine? Why or why not?

3. What did you think about the idea of shrooms? Have you ever considered taking a trip?

4. What events trigger your depression?

5. What does the depression look like for you?

6. What does the depression make you feel like?

7. Do you isolate or reach out for help during your depressive moments? How well has that really served you?

8. What are your eating habits like? Do you feel like this affects your vibration in any way? Explain how.

9. How does what you know now affect your perspective going forward?
