How Fitness Saved My Life
I’ve always felt different. I’m not talking three arms, or four nipples type different… just different. For pretty much the entirety of my life, I had this ridiculous underbite that people made fun of me for. In a way, I was, “different,” but only because I looked different. The whole underbite thing may not seem like a big deal, but for me this was pretty much the basis of what I believed to be my miserable existence at the time. Don’t worry though, this isn’t just some pessimistic, pity me, sob story—it gets better.

I Spent My 20th Birthday in a Hospital Bed
I spent my 20th birthday in a hospital bed. Why? I had just completed my first few days of Coast Guard boot camp. It was tough. As you can probably imagine it was made up of a lot of screaming, working your body to the extreme, and trying to not fall asleep from the lack of sleep. I was feeling confident, like I could take it on and that it wouldn’t be a problem. To say the least I was wrong.

In the Beginning, Narcissists Do These Things
Narcissists do not come with a warning on their forehead. They do come with a deeply limited repertoire of behaviors and interaction styles that are not glaringly obvious, yet are present from the beginning.

Toxic Parents Are a Thing
Parents can be the best and worst thing that happens to us. There is a healing that only they can give us, yet they damage us like no one else. In reality, everything that we are and are to become flows from them. Their nurture can enhance the good or bad of our nature. A toxic parent does both; but only if we choose to grow and learn from how they treat us.

One Minute From Bliss
Most days start out like every other day; an alarm clock goes off, a person rolls out of bed, gets dressed, goes to school, the day begins. This is exactly how the day started for Jason Kline. It was especially cold that Wednesday morning, and Jason had been wearing his grey University of Berkeley sweater to stay warm, bundled up, standing at the bus stop.

We're Gonna Win, Despite Our Bipolar Diagnosis!
In my last post, I listed a number of toll-free numbers that we can use in the event we need someone to talk to, and help us through a "cycle" (the word's used to describe either a manic or depressive stage). Then we covered the issue of medications (and, listen, I can't be too emphatic on this: If you've been prescribed med(s) to help you, then take them regularly! Don't skip a dose, or take too many of them! If you have bad side effects, discuss this with your psychiatrist. He or she can find a better one for you).
