Mindful Strides
Mindfulness, the phenomenon of truly being conscious and aware, too often lingers in the shadows of our perceived realities like a ghost. It lets you know its there through that in-explainable urge to choose one path over the other with the confidence of an omniscient being. It even lets you see it at those moments when you realize you’re truly happy, so happy that it feels as though your heart is smiling and your entire body may literally burst with joy.

Impaired Counselors Leads to Impaired Clients
Abstract The purpose of this work is to define and explore counselor impairment, proving that counselor impairment is dangerous and ultimately leads to not having the ability to best serve the client who has sought professional help in the first place. There are countless reasons in which counselors in training or licensed counselors may become, or in some cases, enter the field, impaired. A survey of the various implications of such impairments are discussed. There is a pattern identified of the most common type of violation within the states in the U.S. Impairments may quickly lead to violations of the counseling code of ethics which could lead to revocation of licensure and permanent reputation defamation in the eye of the public. The foundation that has been set for the counseling profession deserves to be honored by all counseling professionals; this means intentional understanding and awareness of personal impairments and the avoidance of misconduct. Lastly, impairment prevention and counselor-wellness are discussed and encouraged.

Mad World
Perhaps we all carry within ourselves the potential of our own destruction that we battle with in our own way. And this friction is what causes suffering in our lives. Maybe everything inherently carries within it, its own destruction. Perhaps in life, we constantly fight that pull to self-destruct in whatever way is ours.

Recovery In Perpetuity
I got a lot of good things going for me right now. A new car, new job, stable home. I am not worried about food or money or shelter or where my next paycheck is coming from. I am not running from anything, not hiding from anything. I have good friends who adore me and a supportive partner who is kind to me in all the right ways. I have made massive changes to my diet and begun keeping myself on a rather tight schedule that includes shopping days and meal prep days and becoming the primary chef of the household, therefore getting us all healthier.

The Lonely Road
The bell on the door chimes as she walks into the 24-hour diner. The waitress sees her and nods, knowing her order. She puts in the order before Laura has even taken a seat, in her red leather booth by the window. She slurps down the extra-large chocolate shake. The waitress approaches her to ask if Laura would like some napkins, but it’s too late. Laura’s straw is already swirling around the last bit of the shake. At this point, there is only whipped cream and a cherry remaining. With it, she ordered a burger and onion rings.

Dead Man
24/7 Diner When I roll through the back door into the kitchen, I know that everybody knows. I can feel myself reeling as I shrug off my backpack and throw it on the rack where all the line cooks and dishwashers keep their street clothes. I kick off my sneakers, wrestle on my nonslip shoes and head for the dish area. I need to see Carlito before I clock in, before I do anything at all.

I would like to share my story below with you for anybody going through the same situation. I would like to think I can help somebody and bring that light back into somebody else’s life.
