My Journey to Mental Wellbeing Started with Myself
As human beings, it is often difficult, if not impossible for us to wrap our own minds around something that we cannot see or do not understand. In large part, that is how certain stigmas are born and cemented into society. That, coupled with failure to educate or refusal to learn is why a dark cloud still hangs around the subject of mental illness.

I am nothing
I am nothing. Let that sit with you for a moment. I am nothing. But I don't want your pity. Here's why: For the past four years, and possibly more, I have felt this deep, aching, emptiness where my heart is adrift from any anchorage within my body. I saw a dear friend and the world's best energy healer last week and I described it to him as "disembodied". I literally feel like I am not in my body. It's like I'm here, but not here.

Mental Health Awareness
To begin, how did I realize I had a mental illness? To start, I was fourteen years old and my parents started to notice some differences in my behavior and the way I was interacting with others. They weren't shocked though which was surprising. Having a mental illness was completely new to me and I had no idea what it meant. I started to feel emotions i.e more sadness, excessive aggression, and hopelessness. I felt like I was lost and empty. I didn't know what to do with myself. I was completely disguised of my real true identity. I first thought to myself "Why me?, this couldn't happen to me does this mean i'm not normal? "My first signs of my behavior differences are : noncompliance with parents then it turned into jobs and school. The second I was not keeping up with daily hygiene routines and lastly was being isolated in my room by choice. These all affected my daily living.

Why Nurse Jackie is the Most Authentic Portrayal of Addiction on Television
It was the spring of 2009 when I first read a review for a new television series premiering called Nurse Jackie. I was intrigued by the title alone; Shows about the complexities of life as an MD are quite common, but few focus on nurses’ professional experiences. Mere curiosity became fervent interest upon reading the plotline: An ER nurse who works in a busy NYC hospital and is juggling the roles of wife, mother, and career professional, all while secretly battling an addiction to prescription painkillers.

How To Function
You are reading someone's reply on a social media post. Your eyes flick to their name, then continue reading while thinking on their name. Growing up together. The last time you saw them. Possibly one day you think you may be a better friend and call them, sometime. You agree with their reply, and go to "like" it. You pause, and suddenly feel blank.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is Not a Myth...
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) aka Seasonal Depression: Many of you have most likely noticed, at one point in time or another (or maybe even consistently,) in yourself or someone you know, mood changes that seem to be brought on by the end of the warm and sunny Summer months and the onset of shorter, cooler days. The irritability or lack of motivation is too easily and too often brushed off as “the winter blues,” or a “seasonal funk” that people view as something totally normal that comes and goes, and likely feel that it is something that a person simply must deal with.
