Book Review: "Legend of a Suicide" by David Vann
I have read quite a few books about people killing themselves or contemplating suicide. There seems to be this narrative of having been overtly depressed so to that it is reflected in the language whether it is narrated by the victim or not. But there is something different about “Legend of a Suicide” in the sense that there is not this sense of desperate grief but instead this question of why. There is this question of why because of the fact the victim of the suicide is someone whom the protagonist and narrator viewed as not only successful financially but also as a person who was moving on with their lives. Now, there is an argument of the fact that people commit suicide when they believe people least expect it as to not worry anyone in advance, but the scene in which the fact does kill himself is something else entirely. There is this sense of time stopping, but there seems to be none of this helplessness that surrounds it. In actuality, the scene is pretty disgusting. The father shoots himself in the head and his own brother finds him later on when the birds have already been pecking at him and the flies, eating him. His desecrated corpse is then reported to the child (narrator) and his mother. We then get this flashback upon the parents and why the marriage crumbles into nothingness.

The Dyslexic Writer
I’m a copywriter. And I’m dyslexic. Actually, thanks to the second point, the first one is temporarily untrue. I lost my job due to being dyslexic. Now, before you start screaming discrimination in my defense, it was undisclosed. I couldn’t really have expected my ex-boss to consider something she had no knowledge of, could I?

Reading For Mental Health
I read alot, both online and offline. I read many different types, and I read a good amount of stories on Vocal. One of the good things about reading is that you can read with or without purpose, and I find a balance of both is really healthy for me. My days can vary from busy to boring, especially on those days when I am stuck at home with not much to do. I decided to get around this by including reading with my job as a writer. Obviously like many of you, I do have chores and I go out because I like to try and keep myself active too, but there are those in-between days when the weather is horrible or everything I need to do has been finished, and then I go out of my mind with boredom and I hate that! I also have some major issues with insomnia, and if I am suddenly wide awake with nothing to do for hours, that can be more frustrating than insomnia itself, so I like to pull out my kindle or laptop, and set it to dim light and read until I am tired. If you do this, it is important to dim the light as a brightly lit screen will make you feel more awake, rather than sleep.

The Space Between
Prologue Everything is dark in the space between. All of it, except for the slivers of light that reflect off the honeysuckles here and there in the spots where the crowded trees allow the moon to filter through. But the things that live here, the ones that occupy that place on the precipice of sleep, where the conditioned air of the bedroom bleeds into the breeze of dreams, don’t need light. In the inky blackness of semiconciousness, sight is unnecessary. Because, she thinks, they can smell you all the same.

Inner Child Healing
If the Earth didn’t get tilted, we wouldn’t have seasons. Connecting + Nurturing our Inner Child Connecting to and nurturing our Inner Child is at the essence of all my offerings. Why? Our Inner Child is our pure soul, our passion, our light, and connected to our purpose. Somewhere along the way for many of us we get somewhat disconnected from this essence, especially during challenging times in our lives - yet this is the time we need to nurture this part of ourselves the most. Through connecting to and nurturing our Inner Child, we become re-acquainted with what truly brings us peace, love, joy, and natural flow in our lives.

Borderline Personality Disorder: How to Cope
My brain is my worst enemy. I’m constantly overthinking every scenario, constantly questioning myself and those around me. Do they like me? Or are they pretending to like me? Every time I send a text, did I say the right thing? Down to every sentence, I examine until my heart feels like it might explode out of my chest.
