Warns of the Danger of Chat GPT Syndrome

Why is the matter?

By Siddhi KimPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

In February, an article titled “Artificial intelligence that Thinks like a Human Being: Is it a Crisis or an opportunity for Human Life?” was published in a renowned Korean daily newspaper, Chat GPT syndrome. As I read the article I couldn’t help but feel surprised and got goosebumps, realizing that ‘the time has finally come.’ With a sense of urgency, I am publishing the methodology on an online publishing platform, under the title of "How to Expand Human Cognitive Ability" on an online publishing platform in Korean. I firmly believe that human cognitive ability must be enhanced in the future AI era.

At the core of the matter is how well we handle AI in the future, which is likely to become a crucial competitive advantage. The generation of children born and raised in the AI era are now effortlessly solves and finds enjoyment in them. The AI Future Strategy Center of the Korea Intelligence and Information Society Agency simultaneously warns of the dangers of a world where the efforts required knowledge diminished. Some public schools in New York, U.S. have even decided to block Chat GPT on their campuses, fearing a decline in cognitive abilities due to over- reliance on chatbots.

However, there is also news that Elon Musk of the U.S. has entered a phase of competition, jumping into the Chat GPT industry. Capitalism will never let the food go, so no wonder. On the other hand, it is also warned that Chat GPT may be a meaningless empty shell close to fantasy or false information.

So, how can we address these inevitable weaknesses? How can we strengthen our core vulnerabilities? It is not even mentioned whether a solution should be proposed or studied. The following day, there are many articles related to Chat GPT, but even after searching I can't find any that addresses these issues. At most, warnings, and news about public schools in the U.S. blocking access. Is it possible to avoid this problem simply by evading it?.

We should develop abilities that AI can never possess, such as human self-esteem and social solidarity fostered through exceptional empathy. For instance, if you show and guess the ingredients that contain pesticides, AI would be incapable of showing or guessing the presence of pesticides in ingredients in foods, as this can only be done through the intuition derived from the intricate interplay of brain neurons, senses, muscles that have forged paths via neuroplasticity in the brain. In other words, it requires the power of experiential knowledge, much like the coordinated effort of individual cells and tissues in the body that can produce symphonies akin to orchestras. Although this may appear a practical example, the fact that such an ability leads to empathy serves as proof of human superiority over AI.

This is because AI rely on accumulated statistics to build knowledge, whereas humans possess the ability to transform the knowledge into wisdom through direct experience. No matter how much milk or cabbage is accumulated, the ingredients themselves remain unchanged. However, through a chemical transformation process called fermentation, they can become cheese and Kimchi. AI is incapable of undergoing this chemical change process, preventing it from converting knowledge into wisdom. The valuable wisdom acquired through experience is a cognitive ability exclusive to humans.

It is disheartening to witness the phenomenon solely focusing on the development of applications that aim to ‘optimize the use of chat GPT ’ without paying attention to the improvement of human cognitive skills. Considering the risks that the chat GPT generation might face in the future, shouldn’t we redirect our efforts toward developing human cognitive abilities from now on? Otherwise, they may fall victim to the information provided by empty shells, leading to chaos in the world. It is a regrettable situation that I cannot help but sorry for.
