May Micro Fiction with QVV #MayMicroMaker

Did someone say we need to queer up Vocal? Don't worry, QVV is here! [insert rainbow lasers and pew-pew sounds]

It's been a hectic time in the world and in our Vocal-sphere, but it's also been a while since we released a challenge. We've been a tad busy. Hosting open mics, running in-group prompts and activites. But we've figured its high time we reached out and gave you an idea to play with for a chance at some momentary fame and fortune.

For May, we’re doing a micro fiction challenge of exactly 300 words where you must include at least one queer character in a positive light.

bonus points/extra prompt for inspiration: the story includes a unique secret (not related to queer identity)

That's right, no traumatizing queer stories, or tragic queer endings. We're tired of these over-used narratives for the profit of straight "allies". The 2SLGBTQ+ community deserves more and better. So write it.

Think Queer Joy. Queer Love. Queer Celebration.

But the story doesn't have to be all fluff. Write conflict without it being at the cost of the queer character. That's the ticket.

~The challenge will be open until May 30th 11:59PM EST~

We will open it up to community judging afterwards, as that way we can give our writers even more exposure for a short list. Then we will have a second round of judging to reveal the top 3 stories.

While the prize pool may not be as big (we're prepping for our Pride Month challenge), this is still a great opportunity to showcase your support and skill.

First place will receive a $5 tip, second place will receive $3, and third place will receive a $2 tip. All stories will also be featured on a separate piece for an extra lil' highlight.
